Hi Misti,
I just wanted to say that there are a number of options you can take when dealing with panic disorder or any kind of anxiety disorder. I went through a phase last year when I was constantly in a state of severe anxiety and having several panic attacks a day. In regards to medication,I chose not to go down the benzodiazapine route (ativan etc) as I had watched some of my friends become addicted to them.

I got better with a low dose meds including celexa ( an ssri)as a more long term option + seroquel (an atypical antipsychotic) for the first few weeks. Admittedly this combo was developed after a few misfires but it takes time to find whats best for you.

Another incredibly important treatment I had during this time was therapy specifically geared towards anxiety and panic disorder. It really helped to know what was happening inside the body during a panic attack, for example, you can stop the build up to a panic attack by controling your breathing and walking at the same pace as your breathing.
I also learnt how to desensitize myself to panic causing situations. Meditation also helps.

I can safely say now that I don't think I will suffer from panic attacks again, but hey, if on the off chance they come back, I have sure fire methods for shrugging them off.

I hope you are feeling a bit better today. Panic attacks are ghastly. I wish you well in your search for better health.

Regards
Amy
