There are loads of sedating antihistamines available over the counter at UK chemists, just ask the pharmacist. Not as cheap as in America I'm afraid but they are available. I used to succesfully use Boots own version of Piriton (chlorpheniramine maleate) which is cheap as chips but not quite as sedating as the more expensive Nytol combined with valerian.
