Effexor is supposed to be one of the best medications for anxiety. And it is used in young children. It's very safe and side effects should be minimal. Lexapro is another drug he could try.

The major side effect problem with Effexor is if your child skips a dose. This can make him feel sick. But if he takes it the same time each day, he should be fine.

This medicine game is all about trial and error. Put your child on the drug and give it at least 2 months. If he is not doing any better, just stop the drug. He will not suffer any lasting effects of the drug. When you stop taking Effexor, it should be done very gradually. Also Prozac should be given while one is weaning off of Effexor.
