Hi Taylor -
I just wanted to let you know that I have some scars on my arm from cutting, and they did get better over time (and I do wear short sleeves). The only thing I can add about minimizing scars is that if the wounds are fresh, to keep them clean.
I was in extraordinary mental pain when I did this, and I hope that you are able to find some relief from your pain whether through meds or therapy. I know it's a terrible place to be in. Good luck to you.
