> Linkadge is right, it will cause alterations in receptors - but that happens with any psychoactive drug used long-term - anti-depressants, for instance. No true damage occurs to the brain or body, however. Not that I'm advocating the use of heroin or other opiods, but I just like getting the truth out. Heroin is not a physically dangerous drug.

You obviously have never seen a Junkie. You obviously have never walked the streets of 7th and Market in San Francisco. You obviously have never seen what heroin is cut with out there. I have. I spent almost a month finding and saving my 22 yr old son's life, just this past January. I found him in the county hospital on IV antibiotics, morphine and methadone so that he wouldn't leave to go get his "fix", for if he had, he would've been dead 24 hours later. He had an absess in his hand that burst from shooting up dirty heroin. NOT dirty needles; DIRTY DRUGS!! It is cut with coffee grounds, dirt, tar, etc. Don't ANY OF YOU GO thinking that you know what this stuff is and what it can do, from reading the psychopharmacological properties of it, or even being so bold as to try it once or twice! That is absolutely ludicrious!! HOw dare you rattle off the text book verbage like it's just an SSRI or tricyclic AD. My son almost died right before my eyes. He almost lost his right hand. He still does not have full mobility of his wrist (4 months later). He STILL cries like a baby for that fix. He is a physical and emotional wreck!! PLEASE!! Do not let this young man (or boy) or any young person get the erroneous idea that heroin is not physically damaging! And as for cocaine, I met a man in San Francisco who has NO LEGS now from shooting cocaine! My son has had several seizures from snorting and shooting cocaine. That my friends, does cause brain damage!!
