My daughter was also on Risperdal and than her psdoc put her on Abilify. She has a super sensative system so he started her on 10mg. However the starting dose of Abilify is 15mg. She is now on 15mg. You cannot increase the dose when starting Abilify for 1 month.
Some of the side effects of Abilify (at least which I have noticed with my daughter) are not sleeping through the night as one might have slept previously, irritability, anxiety and being very restless.
Now with my daughter the sleeping aspect has diminshed some however she is awake much earlier than she use to awake. However when she does awake she is much more alert.
Abilify is suppose to be the best medication out there now for schizophrenia as well as bi-polar. We have seem improvement since she has been on it however not all that we had hoped for. Her psdoc wants to gradually increase eventually up to 30mg leave her there for 6 months (he says) and see how she does.
One suggestion I would make to you is this, give your child the recommended dose that the psdoc recommended which is the 15mg. Like I told you once you start on it you have to remain on that dose for 1 month before it is increased. So you should go to the dose he stated. You don't want to have problems with that. It still is very new and quite frankly the psdoc's still don't have all the facts they would want to know about it. So do give him the 15mgs this is going to help later.
