Before the patch, this was certainly true. Oral selegiline, especially at the officially-sanctioned doses (under 15 mg/day, as used for treating Parkinson's), is a disappointing antidepressant. You need to get up to the level where it has MAO-A inhibiting action for it to be really effective. And unless you bypass the digestive system (as the patch does) you have the disadvantages of metabolite s/e's and the dreaded cheese effect.
