Is this typical

Posted by starlight on February 26, 2003, at 12:47:29

Is it typical for the drugs that treat the depressive side of bipolar to wear off over time? I've been doing really well with the lamictal trileptal combo, but am realizing that part of the depressive phase for me is irritation. I find myself getting slightly more agitated over time. My Pdoc has said that I could add another 25mg tablet of the lamictal, but I've been reluctant to because I thought I was doing well and didn't want to lose my mental sharpness.

For those of you who take lamictal - have you found that you maintain your mental sharpness over time as you adjust to the dose? Do you treat the symptoms - or do you go about it proactively - almost as a prophylactic approach to prevent the depression phase from getting worse?
