GABA is a neurotransmitter, like serotonin, dopamine etc. It is by far the most predominate inhibitory NT in the brain. It is our natural 'calmer'. Benzodiazepams, like Valium, work on GABA, to reduce anxiety, produce calm, and induce sleep.
