It lasts I think 8-10 hours, and has an excellent time release mechanism; I used to bounce all over the place with regular methylphenidate (as opposed to now on Concerta).

I also find that for me, while longer-acting preparations (concerta, adderall XR) are smoother, they are not as effective for motivation/energy/focus as immediate-release, nor do they allow for as flexible dosing.
