most books i've read on treatment resistant depression seem to indicate that after 2 - 4 weeks you should definately notice some effect .. which can help you make important decisions like

partial effect --> wait... if necessary, later raise dose, augment -- in other words, quite hopeful

no effect --> possibly discontinue med (depending on med and dose), try different med from same family, after two no response from one med family, try different family -- in other words, no need to waste anymore time


i don't find it so hard waiting for a med to work if i know everyday is going to get better, from here until 100% remission, through time, increasing the dose and/or augmenting

what i do find tough is when you throw out one drug completely and have to start over on another ... but i imagine it is somewhat unusual to have absolutely zero response to a med ...

what i also find tough is when you aren't getting better and nothing is being done about it -- but this is the sign of either poor communication or a bad doc, and certainly not necessary
