I suppose I should have started a new thread... and I apologize to Janelle for muddying up her thread... BUT!! Hang on ! There will be a "socially redeeming value" in here!
When they took me off Depakote, they put me on Neurontin... and there was a period of time while I tapered off the Depakote, and ramped up on the Neurontin... Wow! Was THAT fun ! I've often said that I would have stayed on that combo ! I was so "happy" I was all giggly.. and energized... No depression to be seen ANYWHERE! I think I was on 900 mgs of Neurontin.. and 500 to 750 mgs of Depakote at that point... I only stopped the Depakote because I didn't want the added risk of liver damage from it, if I could survive on Neurontin alone...
200 mgs of Neurontin is not much... from my experimentation, you need atleast 600 mgs to get any beneficial effects worth talking about.. The "standard" dose for BP starts at 900 mgs... If you want a FAQ site for Neurontin, let me know... I have a pretty good one bookmarked... Somebody took 42,000 mgs of the stuff and survived with no ill effects... so.. it isn't like you can't experiment for fear of hurting your self.. I variable dosed the whole time I was on it.. with my docs "permission".. less when I was pretty "clear" ( okay, I know.. these are very relative terms here! LOLOLOL! Should I have said " only hypomanic.. " ?? LOLOL! )... and more as I spun out... either way.. either dark depressions, or mania... I just kept taking another 300 mg cap every hour until I calmed down. Worked great ! It takes effect pretty quickly... doesn't stay in your body for very long.. and doesn't threaten your liver ! ( I'm not a big believer in the "prophylactic medication" concept, as you might have guessed ! Why take meds if you aren't episodic ?? Take 'em when ya need 'em.. not when ya don't ! LOL! )..
