Help - intro to how drugs work

Does anyone have a good suggestion for information
on how these drugs work? For example, my pdoc says
that effexor mainly effects seratonin until higher
doses then can have dopamanergic (sp?) effects.
This is not info I can find on the "basic" med web
sites. I'd really like to understand the effects
of the AD's, stimulants, and benzo's to try to
understand what's going on. I'm really losing faith
that I'll ever find the "right combo"...
