Benzodiazepines; Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, Ativan,

Posted by Mr. Scott on April 11, 2001, at 13:21:14

Hello,

There seems to be a great deal of uncertainty in the medical community about the long-term effectiveness of these drugs. Some physicians believe that use of these drugs lead to tolerance and dependence, while other seem quite comfortable with prescribing them for a long time. I personally have used Xanax once for 2.5 years, and then 1 year later used Klonopin for about 18 months. It seemed to me that the Xanax may have stopped working or at least was not working as well when I discontinued, but the Klonopin never stopped working and enabled me tolerate more Zoloft.

Does anyone out there have experience good or bad with using these drugs for a long period of time? Did they continue working or lose effectiveness?
