Waynette--

What question? The only posts I found from you besides this one were 2 near the top of this board about your daughter. Cam W. (our resident pharmacist) replied to your first post, and your second post described some of your daughter's current med profile but did not ask a question. Did I miss something?

Some general info about Babbleland from my perspective (I've been here 6 months):

--Like every other place where people gather, it takes awhile to get to know others; initially I felt like I was eavesdropping on a private conversation, so I just read for several weeks before I got up the nerve to post. At first it felt like "butting in". After some time, I began to identify individuals whose posts interested me or with whom I felt some similarities, or connection. I try to read all of their posts, regardless of topic. Other times, the subject of specific threads interests me; I'll read nearly everyone's contribution to those. Still other times a poster will ask a question I'm able to answer or find out about; to other questions, I have nothing to offer.

--This board seems to be experiencing some growing pains. I'm a fast reader but there are now far too many posts in too short a time for me to read them all--and I already spend *way* too much time here. All of us must limit our participation in some fashion.

--We are very fortunate to have Cam W. on this board, but he's told us he's experiencing heavy professional demands right now, and temporarily cannot give us as much time as he has in the past.
He will contribute short answers and brief comments as he has time.

--A few of us have professional expertise in biochemistry, nursing, psychology, etc. A number of us have worked hard to educate ourselves on our conditions; but we do not, individually or collectively, constitute a professional resource. All of us can offer our experiences, our interest, our opinions and our caring support; but no one can rely on this board to provide professional advice or expertise.

So, welcome! Give us a little time, and you will feel like a "we."

I *can* offer my reaction to your second post:

--Your daughter's weight gain may be affected not only by her meds, but also by the relative immobility imposed by her JRA; her daily caloric expenditure is probably far less than the average for her age.

--If the doc who recommended the med changes is just a temporary fill-in for a physician who will return, I believe that I would hold off on making major changes until her regular doc comes back. She's taking quite a number of heavy-duty drugs; changes should be evaluated carefully by someone familiar with your daughter, not just her med history. And those changes should be explained to and discussed with you and her. Given the complexity of your daughter's medical condition and treatment, a 2nd (consulting) opinion might be helpful.

Well wishes---medlib
