Nikki - Your doctor is correct, diabetes can mimic depression. Some of the symptoms of the diabetes can resemble the side effects of the antidepressants (eg sweating and increased appetite). Increased thirst is not as common a side effect of antidepressants, but I have heard of it happening (usually see a dry mouth). It is best to rule out or confirm the diabetes, as antdepressants may mask some of the symptoms of depression. By treating the diabetes (if present) you may also resolve the depression as weel. Hope this helps - Cam W.
