I've been getting extra sleep at night (up to ten hours) because they told me to. I was told that I was being given Celexa to "help you sleep at night". I've yet to see anything saying it does that. Besides, why sleep MORE? Then... I hear it can cause you to be sleepy. How do I know I'm getting better? Should I take it when they aren't even sure that it's what is wrong with me? As soon as they learned my family had a history of depression, they assumed that's what was wrong. Am I just being a scardy cat? I'm only 18, and I don't want to think about being depressed (I was a mutilator at fifteen).. Blah.>I guess I'm just overreacting.

Check into the possiblity of Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome. Most doctors ignore its existence as a medical disorder, but I have it, and I can tell you that the average doctor's first thought is usually depression. I went through 5 doctors in four years complaining of the same problem. The frustration ended up giving me panic attacks and made my fatigue extremely worse. Before these severe attacks, I refused to believe that I was depressed. Now I know that I WASN'T, but do to medical ignorance, I now need to be on Paxil in order to function from day to day. Get this looked into asap so you don't end up as severely frustrated as I. Check out the CFIDS Association web page at: www.cfids.org If you do have this, extra sleep will not help you. One of the major symptoms is unrestful sleep. Others are mild fever, muscle weakness and/or pain, headaches, joint pain, sore throat, and abdominal discomfort. Fibromyalgia is also related to CFIDS. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
