He apparently has this (mistaken) idea that I don't think depressed people can be irritable (though he's beyond simply irritable; I think he's angry at the entire world) because I suggested or implied at some point that he might benefit from an antiepileptic or antipsychotic drug (having failed to respond to a number of antidepressants). I still think he should open his mind.
