Refractory, I can relate. I have been feeling very discouraged. Another bad bout of depression, and damn, I have to check off this latest increase in meds/adding new meds as another in a line of failures. And as I start yet another strategy (lithium) I have to have a bit of hope, tho it is surely guarded hope, that it might help.
I also hold some hope in future treatments. I think we might see new AD options, but also new magnetic stimulation type options, laser options. someday I hope they can do a combo of blood tests and scans to determne a person's unique chemistry and which part of the brain is involved, and design a targeted treatment approach. for someone who has felt as hopeless and immobile as i have recently, all of this pollyannaism is absurd. But what choice do I have other than hoping?
