Going from Zoloft to Efexor?

Hey everybody.

Is it safe to switch from 125 mg Zoloft (sertralin) to 75 mg Efexor (venlafaxine) without first decreasing the dosage of Zoloft? My doc wants me to quit Zoloft (which works quite well for me) and start taking Efexor as soon as possible. I've been taking Zoloft for more than a year.
