If I were in your shoes, I would stop the Prozac and allow a washout period before starting the amisulpride. I have a few reasons for saying this. First of all, I’ve never read of amisulpride, or amineptine for that matter, being mixed with an SSRI. This is uncharted territory. In addition, I have read that selegiline, a med. with dopaminergic action, may cause an adverse reaction (i.e. seretonin syndrome) when combined with SSRIs. When I was taking amineptine, a dopamine reuptake blocker, I once took s tablet of serzone, an SSRI. Within an hour of taking the Serzone, I started getting a reaction that included agitation and a racing heart (symptoms of seretonin syndrome?). It was a long, uncomfortable night.
Adam makes a good point about antipsychotics being able to be combined with SSRIs. But amisulpride is only an antipsychotic at high doses. Amisulpride is interesting in that its action at low doses is almost the opposite of its action at high doses. At high doses (400mgs. and up) it is a dopamine receptor antagonist, decreasing the activity of D2-D3 limbic receptors. At low doses however, it increases the activity of those receptors by acting on the presynaptic autoreceptors. Therefore at low doses, 50 to 100mgs., amisulpride is able to activate the D2-D3 limbic system dopaminergic pathways thought to be involved with mood, motivation, and anxiety.
I understand that you may have a tough period while your wiating for the Prozac to washout, but by taking amisulpride by itself, you will be able to better understand the medicine’s action upon your body and what your ideal dosage may be. Hopefully, amisulpride will be the only medicine you need. Keep us posted on how you do, your experiences are valuable to others. I’m wishing you well.
