I have found Neurontin to be the most effective of all the meds I've tried. I've also gained about 20 pounds in the last year. I began with the Neurontin after a horrible experience with a Wellbutrin and Effexor mix. The Neurontin helped to eliminate the mood swings I experienced (Bipolar 2).
I'm am currently tapering off Neurontin because of the weight-gain issue, although my doctor tells me weight gain isn't very common with this med. I also take Celexa, which I recently started. I'll drop that, too, if the weight doesn't come off by the end of the year (I'm also beginning to watch my diet and exercise).
20 pounds may not sound like much, but I'm not feeling too good about goin from a size 10 to a size 14. I'm tired of hassling with the pills, refills, doctors, yada, yada, yada.....
