I've recently been prescribed the tricyclic antidepressant Lofepramine, and it says on the enclosed leaflet that i should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking it. I was surprised at this, more by the fact that my doctor hadn't advised me of this when he gave me the prescription than anything else. I've searched for Lofepramine on the web, and amongst other things found a reference which stated that the only side effect of alcohol and the drug being used together was to increase drowsiness already caused by the Lofepramine. I'm a seventeen year old girl and I enjoy occasional social drinks, but don't want to risk damaging my health. Can anyone advise me on the safety of drinking alchohol whilst taking this drug? I'd be grateful for any advice.
