> I've recently been prescribed the tricyclic antidepressant Lofepramine, and it says on the enclosed leaflet that i should avoid drinking alcohol whilst taking it. I was surprised at this, more by the fact that my doctor hadn't advised me of this when he gave me the prescription than anything else. I've searched for Lofepramine on the web, and amongst other things found a reference which stated that the only side effect of alcohol and the drug being used together was to increase drowsiness already caused by the Lofepramine. I'm a seventeen year old girl and I enjoy occasional social drinks, but don't want to risk damaging my health. Can anyone advise me on the safety of drinking alchohol whilst taking this drug? I'd be grateful for any advice.

I'm curious as to where you live, since this med isn't used in the US. I've taken lofepramine, and after the first two weeks could detect no side effects of any type, if only it worked better it would be perfect but then again nothing seems to work for me. I think this drug never made it to market here simply because there was not enough profit potential, a tricyclic is considered too old fashoned. George
