Typically no to halloween, here, but some of the stores will try and get it to catch on, and we do typically get some kind of halloween special television show thing for the evening. I actually would have thought there may be some trick or treating in suburbia -- but I didn't see anyone put decorations out, so maybe not. I think given the protestant influence, here, it might be frowned upon in these parts. My Mother took me out of girl guides / wouldn't let me continue after I went a time or two) under the pretext of objecting to halloween as a pagan ritual whereas they were getting us making costumes and planning to go trick or treating.
do you like those candy corn things? i think they taste kind of like how i imagine chalk would taste.

It's a huge thing here in the US. Totally fun and exciting for little kids.

It looks fun, to me.
When I was a kid I liked scary / creepy / bizarre stuff. The bizarre aspect still has an appeal.

Hah! Two of the great ones! I got terrified by "When a Stranger Calls" and "Halloween" - both about babysitters. God! How did I ever babysit?

I don't know When a Stranger calls. Halloween I haven't seen because I don't like knives. That's with Michael Meyers and he uses a knife? Nightmare on Elm Street I enjoyed (scared). Have you seen the Japanese 'Ring'?

Maybe they use knives in Halloween - been a while since I last saw it. When a Stranger Calls has no explicit violence - it's just plain scary.
I couldn't handle Nightmare on Elm Street - too much gore..
What is Ring about?
I love scary movies, but not a lot of blood and gore.

I don't like slashers. Night on Elm Street was the only one I've seen. That was enough. However, I thought the conceit was quite original (at the time).

My son wants to watch the Exorcist this year. (We always watch one movie around Halloween.Last year was The Shining.)
I'm not sure how anxious I'll feel. Years ago I saw it, and found it excruciating. Like how I rewatched Rosemary's Baby and found my stomach hurt from the atmosphere and suspense-- even though I knew everything that would happen.

I watched The Exorcist again not too long ago. What stood out this time was Jason Miller's performance as the tormented priest. He must have known a lot about suffering in order to portray it so well.

I was in junior high then. What a different world. I wasn't allowed to see The Exorcist. Frankly, I'm amazed to hear Catholics extol the content. (The Pope?) We were Catholic, too, and I found my mother's secret copy of the novel and I was harrowed!
Lines like those I stood in for Star Wars in 1977. In the rain!

Oh. It isn't halloween yet. I didn't know when halloween was, but I thought you were saying 'happy halloween' because it was halloween, or thereabouts. I see it is soon-ish. I guess I will see whether people put out decorations, or not.
I suppose I should buy something just in case people do come trick or treating. Because there are kids in the neighbourhood and the girl guides came selling their cookies...
But I don't want to buy a bunch of candy. Hrmmmmmm....
