The Ring is a Japanese film, the first (perhaps) of the 'if you watch this video you will die in seven days'. No gore (I don't recall any) but really weird images. There is a not so good American version.

I don't like slashers. Night on Elm Street was the only one I've seen. That was enough. However, I thought the conceit was quite original (at the time).
