what's your favorite fruit

Posted by rjlockhart37 on March 28, 2016, at 22:00:06

i've always loved mexican candy, alot of their candies are tamarind flavor, and it started when i was young in elementary school everyone brought tamarind candy to school, lucus candy, i love it, it's sour but a little sweet.....

the actual fruit tamarind is really sour ... it is intense sour, more than grapefruit, but i love it....

anyone have a favorite fruit that you like to sample?

I like melons. Honeydew and cantaloupe. It's frustrating though because individual melons are so different. You never know if you're getting a good one that's sweet and nicely textured, or a bland one that's too mushy or too firm. I keep buying them though, hoping for a good one.

I love grapefruit, though it's messy to eat.

i like grapefruit, it's that tart sharp taste that's refreshing when you eat it.......

not big fan of peaches.....i mean there ok, but there not enjoyable to eat for me, i like grapefruit, limes, red apples, and green grapes.....

tamarind looks....it looks really nasty, because you have to pull it off the root, but it's incredibly full of flavor, it's a great add to a drink

but it's gotta a dark taste, intense it's in betweeen a plum and a raisen in flavor, sour but a little sweet

i always used to love to munch on green grapes.....pluck them off the stem.....

I've heard of tamarind... But I don't know the fruit. Or the candy, either.

Closest I know of is 'Tamarind Paste' as an ingredient in Indian cooking.

I like crisp and crunchy and a little bit sour apples... But I hardly ever buy apples because they are mostly disappointing. I remember the supermarket when I was a kid... They used to have cut up bits of fruit that you could sample in deciding what to buy. Most people will pay more for fruit if they know it is what they like...

I miss Australia for the melons. It was a huge component in fruit salad. I know what you mean about the texture / ripeness. You can tell about it's texture / ripeness once it's cut up in the salad, already. Or... I guess I was working in hospitality and so... Fresh melons, yeah. I love them, too. Especially the orange ones... Can't remember what they are called...

I really love mangoes. You guys probably have a whole heap from Mexico etc that I don't even know of. Apparently there are lots of different species etc. In NZ they aren't worth buying. Like, $5 per mango and then it was picked green and irradiated on the way and is rubbery and unripe and horrid. But you could buy like a whole crate of mangoes where I was in Australia... Like 24 mangoes. For $12. And I'd do that and they'd all be perfect. And I'd cut them up and freeze then in individual bags for smoothies. After I'd eaten... You don't want to know how many...

I really like nectarines. They have smooth skin and not fuzzy like peaches... A more intense flavor. I really like black plums... Black Doris Plums if you have them. I love them made into jam... Home made jam with the stones still in it... Sweet... But really tart around the stones and when you find one you suck on it...

Tangy apple lollies... I remember them from being a kid... I guess it was like sucking on the stone of a black doris plum... That blend of sweet and then tangy / sour in the middle...

Christmas time... Time to buy Marlbourough Cherries off the back of a truck...

I dislike honeydew melon. I read something a while back that pointed out that most people aren't nuts about honeydew melon, yet, because it's cheap, most fruit salads are full of honeydew melon. I go to lunch meetings where they order a fruit salad and every one picks out the pineapple, cantaloupe, strawberries, grapes, so soon all that's left is this big pile of honeydew melon.

I thought you may be dissing my melon, so I found this. This the good one IMHO:

The green one isn't very flavoursome, as you say.

I think watermelon is over-rated, actually. Or maybe I'm not subtle enough for it.

i've never had honeydew melon, but maybe it's used so much in salads because maybe of the honey flavor to sweeten the salad......became like a generic product to use in fast food salads

i like refreshing fruits, but no peaches....yuk yuk yuk, cantaloupe is ok but it's still on the borderline of peach, my mom eats it all the time, i used to like eating pure watermelon because of the fresh juice that's in it, but i got tired of it because i hate so much when i was kid at my grandma's house

Cantalope! Yeah, I love cantaloupe. It's also very high in a lot of nutrients, including potassium. Honeydew is this light green and practically flavorless. But it's cheap, so people selling fruit salad just use honeydew as filler. Like I say, everyone gobbles up the cantaloupe and watermelon, grapes, pineapple, orange, berries, whatever. Nobody ever even touches the honeydew melon

Yeah, it is practically flavourless. If only it tasted like honey or... Something.

I didn't mind the darkest green bits when they were fairly ripe... But last to go off the fruit platter, indeed.

Maybe nectarines, but I prefer junk food.
