I've heard of tamarind... But I don't know the fruit. Or the candy, either.

Closest I know of is 'Tamarind Paste' as an ingredient in Indian cooking.

I like crisp and crunchy and a little bit sour apples... But I hardly ever buy apples because they are mostly disappointing. I remember the supermarket when I was a kid... They used to have cut up bits of fruit that you could sample in deciding what to buy. Most people will pay more for fruit if they know it is what they like...

I miss Australia for the melons. It was a huge component in fruit salad. I know what you mean about the texture / ripeness. You can tell about it's texture / ripeness once it's cut up in the salad, already. Or... I guess I was working in hospitality and so... Fresh melons, yeah. I love them, too. Especially the orange ones... Can't remember what they are called...

I really love mangoes. You guys probably have a whole heap from Mexico etc that I don't even know of. Apparently there are lots of different species etc. In NZ they aren't worth buying. Like, $5 per mango and then it was picked green and irradiated on the way and is rubbery and unripe and horrid. But you could buy like a whole crate of mangoes where I was in Australia... Like 24 mangoes. For $12. And I'd do that and they'd all be perfect. And I'd cut them up and freeze then in individual bags for smoothies. After I'd eaten... You don't want to know how many...

I really like nectarines. They have smooth skin and not fuzzy like peaches... A more intense flavor. I really like black plums... Black Doris Plums if you have them. I love them made into jam... Home made jam with the stones still in it... Sweet... But really tart around the stones and when you find one you suck on it...

Tangy apple lollies... I remember them from being a kid... I guess it was like sucking on the stone of a black doris plum... That blend of sweet and then tangy / sour in the middle...

Christmas time... Time to buy Marlbourough Cherries off the back of a truck...
