The worst thing is being at other peoples mercy.

Posted by Lamdage22 on October 30, 2014, at 11:37:19

Isnt it funny how it is generally accepted, that mental illness and mental distress is a brain chemistry thing and that it is not the fault of those affected.
yet, there is punishment for being ill. For being lazy. Depressed.
Its like hey we are failing miserably to manufacture truly helpful medication that adresses the root cause, lets just try and punish them until they behave as if healthy."
I am quite the misantrophe. I have become.
Mostly due to being at other peoples mercy.
In any other medical field, this would be scandalous. Yet in mental health, its common practice.

It is not my illness that is the worst, the worst thing is being at other peoples mercy because they are no good.

Wow, a very powerful and true post. I felt that way when I was going from ER to ER, looking for an ounce of compassion in my psychotic state. It was no where to be found. : (

I can only say that i resent 95% of all people.

Either for doing this sh*t or for not standing up against it.

Awful.

We need to find people that care and that are safe for us. As many as possible.

Its not that simple.

Lamadge, I know what you mean.
I want to try going off my medication, actually, one of the reasons being I'm not sure I really need it. Especially with...being in school now for nutrition, health, and wellness. I'm already learning so much about how food and what we put in our bodies affects us.
But yeah, I can't stand the mental health system in this country lately. It's like, here's a pill, take it now. Oh, and they don't teach you anything about how to love yourself or care for yourself in a positive way. My current therapist is so unprofessional. She never calls me back when I need her. And she sticks up for the bitchy secretaries saying they're overworked. My problem? don't think so. I'm nice, too. Ok, this rant is getting a little out of focus. But I just wanted to tell you, I know.

after thought: I think..there's also power in feeling good about yourself. Like I'm in the mental health system right now. But I'm making positive life choices. I'm going after my dreams. and people said, and are saying, "no you can't," or, "you shouldn't do that." but no one can tell you what to do. Except you. Which is really, pretty awesome. It's scary. To say "no" to these people. To say, I'm going to do it *my* way. especially when you have strong emotional ties to them. But yeah. Just thought I'd throw that in. :)

I think though, if you feel powerless, and even making your own decisions about smaller things. If you're not ready to go big. Can also be helpful.

I learned about being at people's mercy and what I learned, I didnt like. I couldnt put it into words b4 but Lamdage did. I always wish I didnt know that about people. I wish I didnt know what it's like to be at other's mercy. It was chilling. I will never forget what that felt like. I was even joked about and treated like a bother. Mine was finite though. Im a strong person now. My mind is strong. I feel horrible for all the scores of people that have infinite mental issues. That's what's really sad, knowing what insanity is like, feeling that, day after day after day. I had to claw my way out of it, but that was the most difficult time of my life.

"The worst thing is being at other peoples mercy."

I completely concur with you in this sentiment. I have been at others' mercy (due to my brain chemistry and/or mother's inflicting her codependency and mental illness down my throat). I will never be able to be happy and/or live in a state of true forgiveness until I have control over my life, or, failing that, my anxiety and depression. My "will to power" (to borrow a term from Nietzsche) has been completely compromised. Without the ability to feel competency and lack of being-encomposing worry, I am nothing, a non-entity. People push me around at their will and do not even realize it. I hate it and there's nothing I can do about it. Who is not a misanthrope when human contact means little more than a shove in the back or a kick in the face. I am right there with you, brother.

Chris

I hate all this "therapeutic" "its in the way you handle it" talky talk. It gets me nowhere.

Maybe its their way of apologizing for having failed medical treatment of a medical condition and having nothing to offer.

Like putting people with broken bones into the olympics and telling them "its how you handle it" while doing nothing to heal the broken bones.

Afterall, its "all about how we handle it" not about progress in freakin medical treatment.

I am all for the medical model. It seems to be the one that is most likely true. I tried almost everything and yet i wouldnt necessarily recommend antidepressants to someone who is depressed. Thats how sh*tty these meds are in my eyes.

I think that they completely failed us with SSRI. Its mostly propaganda. Placebo 30% SSRI 40%.

And people constantly speak about all the progress they made and how mental illness is "very well treatable". This leads to good SSRI (mostly placebo) drugs sale and to poor research since "we already have the SSRI magic bullets".

Epic fail.

But remember: Its how YOU handle it! Not to say its your fault, but get your damn *ss up and stop being such a burden.

Thats about the most of treatment we get these days!

I am learning to say no. Thats how i handle it.

Been reading this thread and what you say about putting someone in the Olympics with broken bones. Seems to me that the whole medical field is on the same course. Nothing seems to be able to be fixed. Just treat it with a pill and go home and deal with it. Sorry to butt in. Phillipa

I know I had to do most of the work on myself, researching methods, meds, etc. No one was there for me. It was a lonely, lonely journey. The brain is a vast, undiscovered land. More vast than ocean or universe, in my opinion.

And Glyx-13 is postponed from 2015-2016 to 2016 to 2018 at the earliest.

Isnt it great how many precautions they are taking for people that may be on the verge to suicide?

Its good work. Keep it up!

Thanks so much!

Well we can always lock these people up. Its better than evil side effects like diahrria!

We cant do that.

Hey, life is a prison. Its no problem. We already have medication on the market, that can stop your heart from beating. You can take them. Its no problem, they are useless after all.

It is a good therapeutic effect to let everyone suffer till 2020.

Again. Thanks so much.

In my opinion, your "rant," (if it was even that) was definitely not psychotic. Very rational, considering the circumstances. I can totally relate.

Thanks, Angela.

I read your other post, too. Glad you're going after some of your dreams. It's good that you can see clearly enough to have dreams. Me, my vision is all foggy from the anxiety and depression. In the past, it seems like things that I thought were "dreams" in the past have turned out not to be so once some of my symptoms resolve.

Keep plugging away.

Chris

Chris. Thanks. I just recently took a leap, and I think it was a good decision.

I understand that too. Not having dreams. Or not being sure which ones are dreams, which ones are possible, and then the symptoms of anxiety and depression get in the way. I still wrestle with that.

Take care.

Thank you for your continued interest. As you are aware, Naurex is currently conducting early-stage clinical studies of GLYX-13 and NRX-1074 for the treatment of depression. The results of our initial studies have been positive and we have received Fast Track designation from the FDA for GLYX-13. However, as with any prescription medications, thorough evaluations of safety and efficacy are necessary before seeking approval from regulatory authorities to market our drugs. These studies will take significant time and we do not anticipate the submission of a New Drug Application (NDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for GLYX-13 until 2018 at the earliest. An NDA for NRX-1074 could follow a few years later. Applications for approval will likely be submitted in the U.S. first, followed by other regions (including Germany).

That said, the development path will depend on the results of additional studies, discussions with regulatory authorities, and discussions with potential development partners. As such, the timing of the submission of an application for regulatory approval of GLYX-13 or NRX-1074 is uncertain and difficult to predict.

We hope that both GLYX-13 and NRX-1074 will be meaningful therapies for patients with depression and other psychiatric disorders and are working hard to achieve that goal as rapidly and responsibly as possible.

Best regards,
Naurex Inc.
