This is good but will anyone read it? I hope so :)

When you're a little depressed
And you don't know it
It's called anhedonia
You try not to show it.

Your life comes back
But bit by bit - line by line
It's a slow moving process
And you've lost so much time.

You move faster in body and soul
You're new again - it shows on your face
But it's not how it used to be, you think
That someone new has taken your place.

I read it. What do I win?

:-)

Actually, when my depression remits, I don't feel that I have changed at all. For me, it is the world that has changed.

I love this! A beautiful description of how it feels. I do feel as if Im a different person. A before the bad breakdown version, and an after the bad breakdown version. My life has been broken in to before and after. Thanks for sharing your writing. : )

I agree, Scott. It's not always based on fact. I write fast. Maybe just trying show others that know nothing about this disease how it can feel for some.
I do come back to me but it may be me from years ago and time has passed. So, in some ways, I've forgotten all of the things I used to do, eat, etc. And I've aged. In that way, it does sometimes feel that I have forgotten me and I'm like a new person trying to connect the dots. Maybe like amnesia. Unlike treatments which are based on studies, facts, and sometimes educated or wild *ss guesses, poetry takes a much different view. Mine, anyway.
It's all good but not always to be taken literally. I give myself slack. I'm just reaching to make the uninitiated know how it feels.
But I love criticism because I know where to go next time.

Thanks for reading this.

Thanks for reading it! I lived in a shack for 15 years. Now I'm in a nice apt and very slowly I'm remembering how I used to be because disability has given me time to think. But I look in the mirror and I'm not the same person but I'm slowly trying to find him. He was stripped of memories of better times. Forgotten by everyone.
It's not easy to write about mental illness because I just don't have the vocabulary. So, I do it anyway.

"Depression has many faces."

Several mental health professionals - including psychiatrists - have said this to me. In other words, the cluster of symptoms and changes in affect and cognition differ widely between individuals. Your writing is great. I did not mean to generalize my experiences with depression to you or anyone else.
