They keep out of foreign affairs, they managed non-violence as a country right next to nazi Germany, they are liberal,
They have a systhem very close to real democracy.

With lots of citizen voting.

I love it also was there twice. All over the country, Zermatt, Vevey, St Moritz and other spots. My ex's Mother and Sister lived there on the Mountain overlooking Lake Geneva. So clean. Such lovely people. Have you been there also? Phillipa

Indeed,
Zermatt and Laax. Zermatt had SO much snow.

That was a long time ago though.

I'm listening to "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy which presents an interesting aspect of Sweden.

Loved that trilogy. The author died and left this huge estate in complete disarray, with legal battles between his girlfriend and family. Too bad. Even my husband, who rarely reads fiction, read all three books and we went to see both the Swedish and American movies based on the books.

I love the Swedish movies, and now that I'm reading the first book, I think the film makers did a first rate job.

Did the author write other books?

I think that's all he ever wrote. Though you could check on amazon. The American film of the first book was really quite good. Better than I expected.

Not that much.. but you are right, in terms of diversity the US leads the pack!

The EU, on the other hand, has really opened up to immigration in the last couple of decades, both within the EU and from Africa, Middle East. Whenever I've been in London or Paris, I am amazed at the diversity. Different immigrant groups (way more from the middle east, South Asia and Africa, compared to South America in the US), but hardly a homogenous population. Maybe Switzerland is different though. Of course, there's a lot of anti-immigrant sentiment in Europe right now, but there also is in the US.
