The EU, on the other hand, has really opened up to immigration in the last couple of decades, both within the EU and from Africa, Middle East. Whenever I've been in London or Paris, I am amazed at the diversity. Different immigrant groups (way more from the middle east, South Asia and Africa, compared to South America in the US), but hardly a homogenous population. Maybe Switzerland is different though. Of course, there's a lot of anti-immigrant sentiment in Europe right now, but there also is in the US.
