My sinuses are hurting :-(

Posted by Kath on September 3, 2008, at 18:11:22

Ouch.

All last night also. Tylenol 3's during night; lots of water too. But sleep felt like hovering somewhere amid pain.

I hate sinus pain. It hurts.

Kath

- gonna lie down now & breathe through a wet facecloth...that sometimes helps.

((((((((Kath))))))))))

I'm sorry about the sinus pain. In the past I have seriously considered what would happen if I just asked my doc to fill them all in with resin or something so that they wouldn't be so troublesome

Hiya Kath,

This may sound weird to you, I have sinus problems to, have suffered with them most of my life, one of the problems I have are when I bend over for something, the fliud runs into my eyes, and you get that horrid sensation in them.
The best cure for me is to snort warm water into my sinuses and then blow out,do this 3 or 4 times, I find this really clears them especially before bed.
I hope this works for you, sounds horrid but it does work for me.

Wish you luck

Dave

That's like a Neti pot! It can work wonders for sinus pain.

Also, Kath, do you think you could tolerate some sudafed, or nasal spray? They can alleviate nasal pressure.

Instead of tylenol 3, maybe you need to kick it up a notch and go for vicoprofen temporarily.

Are you on an antibiotic? Sinus infections can fester and fester without treatment and lead to all kinds of complications.

Hope you feel better soon.

WELL Llurpsie, that sounds like a thought worth considering!! LOL

Thx Dave - I just tried it & JEEZ - it took me RIGHT back to being a kid in swimming lessons & getting water up my nose!! LOL When you do it, does it sting afterwards? Mine did, but that's okay. I've added it to my list of stuff to do when I'm having sinus problems.

***Never heard of that - going to look it up online...although it sounds like just sniffing water would be the same.***

*****Sinus pain is something that I do have ongoing....not all the time though. I've been using Euphorbium Nasal Spray by a homeopathic company called "Heel". As well as "Sinusalia" - also a homeopathic preparation by Boiron. Usually that combination works pretty well. For the past couple of days, the air quality has been pretty bad (pollution) so maybe that's why they're particularly bad. Also, with our son living here right now, he smokes & although he goes outside to smoke, & washes his hands when he comes in, & even though he's mostly downstairs & I'm not, I'm still being exposed to smoke!****

*****I've never heard of that. I'll ask my doctor. It would be good to have something on hand for times like this when the T3 isn't doing the trick! It sounds like vicoprofen is an anti-inflammatory? It makes me wonder - maybe even ibuprofen would help. Or an ibuprofen along WITH the T3. I'm pretty sure I remember asking a pharmacist before if you could take ibuprofen with acetaminophen & being told yes.***

****Actually - I'm on Cipro for a bladder infection! So hopefully if I did have a sinus infection it'd take care of that also. I wonder if a person had a sinus infection, would their sinuses be bothering them ALL the time, or could you have one & only have problems some of the time?*****

A Netti pot kind of is like sniffing steam I think not sure but glad you're feeling better. Love Phillipa

I do it as and when I feel the need to,but when I have the problem for more than 1 day, I tend to to it every night before bed for a week. The stingy thing goes after the first couple of times and normally only for a few minutes.
Good luck Kath.

Just did time #2 - still stingy. You know, I think it actually did help a bit last time....after the stinging had cleared.

I wonder if the "trigger-of-being-a-kid-at-swimming-lessons-&-getting-water-up-my-nose" will go??

:-) Kath

PS - today is turning out to be WAY better. So far I've only taken 2 T3's.

Sinus infections can be chronic and they are notoriously hard to get rid of. Cipro should help if it is a long enough course of the antibiotic. My favorite antibiotic for sinusitis though is augmentin (be warned however, it is a strong antibiotic).

Vicoprofen is hydrocodone and ibuprofen, but you can take ibuprofen with tylenol 3. Frankly, tylenol has never done much for me, even when mixed with codeine.

A friend of mine used a neti pot when she was pregnant with some really good results.

Seldom.

I use a saline nasal spray every day, whether I'm suffering or not - it has no medications in it but keeps the membranes moist.
I know how painful the condition can be. Hope you are continuing to improve.

I've been using a neti pot for years, with great success. Here's one: http://www.healthandyoga.com/html/product/neti.html

The stinging may be because the salt concentration is too great; use 1 teaspoon to 2 cups of water.

Thx Seldomseen,

I actually found Cipro pretty strong.

I got REALLY freaked out, reading the possible side effects.....some of which can take a couple of years to happen! JEEZ LOUISE!!!!!

Anyhow, the sinus pain is gone now.

In hindsight, I really think that it was due to very poor air quality!

Thx for your support. love, Kath

Good idea! I should try that.

I have a battle drinking enough liquid - I hate drinking water.

So I'm sure that it will help me to drink more water if I can. I'm trying to get better at it.

Thx for giving that site.

The stinging was even with plain water!

But I did find inhaling the water helped.

And I did EFT for the childhood water-up-my-nose-during-swimming-lessons-trauma that flashed into my mind big-time when I did the water sniffing...and after doing that, I didn't have the almost panic feeling, so I'll add water sniffing to my sinus pain methods as well as the other stuff suggested.

thx all, Kath
