He is my favorite author. I started reading horror stories early on because my sister (6 years older) read them. It quickly became the ultimate way to escape the unpleasantness of my childhood. When I discovered Stephen King (through my Grandmother rather than my sister) I was hooked.
I dream of meeting him someday and telling him how much his stories have meant to me. Escaping into his books has literally saved me from potential suicide in the past. I re-read my favorites constantly. When I'm stressing or upset, its the best thing for me to escape into a beloved story (after I've cried all I can and its time to move on).
If I ever met him, I'd probably grab him and hug him while bursting into tears - which would probably get me clobbered by his body guards. The ultimate for me would be for him to use my name and description as a character - even (or especially) if I was described as having pimples and inadvertently passing gas (these characteristics are just so Stephen King).
I love you Stephen King, whether you ever know it or not.

My all time favorite SK story!!! I've heard there is talk about a movie directed by Steven Spielberg. Wouldn't that be awesome!!!

I didn't go in for the serial stuff (Dark Tower, Green Mile) but only because I'm an Impatient Reader - I want it all now. His style has always appealed to me, very accessible. His wife Tabitha is also an excellent writer, if you want to round out your King library.

I have read them all...I love him. I like the dark ones, all of them. I have my favs. If you ever come to my house you will find SK novels all over my home. In the guest room, in the bathroom, in the great room, in the family room, you name it there will be a SK novel in there awaiting someone to read it. And I started the Gunslinger series thinking I will just start this one, the first one, never dreaming I would be hooked. But I truly enjoyed the whole series and anxiously awaited the final installments to that series too. I was sad to read the last page.
Yes, I am with you. SK you are one of my all time favs.

Was that the 'kids' one? With the deadly poison - was it dragon blood or something? and with the peek-hole? Can't remember the name. It's the only one I read. I read it to my son when he was younger. (But not too young for it.)
I like it alot. Maybe it's not the one I'm thinking of.
Anyway, I don't like scarey stuff generally, so I guess I'm not a good candidate for Stephen King.

The book has so much more JUICE (info) in it. There a part where she get a lawnmower...get rid of the shariff.(WHOOO man that im glad kathy bates didnt go that far in the movie!)

SK is known for his horror stories, but a lot of his stuff is very much SciFi. I can't remember if I already said this (and don't feel like looking), but my all time favorite SK book is The Talisman. My other all time favorite book is Timeline by Michael Crichton, which has to do with time travel back to medieval times (the movie SUCKED by the way!).

I cried to the last page of the Dark Tower/Gunslinger series because it was so freaking sad!!! I think the worst was the situation with Oy (I'm trying not to do any spoilers).
Its good to find another SK fan!

Nothing wrong with that! But they do make me cry uncontrollably! I've read many, many Danielle Steele books. And Nicolas Sparks wrote The Notebook, right? Man that was sad!!!! But an excellent book, as are Danielle Steele's. I'd just rather be scared than sad! ;-)

> fanYeah, Misery is a good one. I've always thought of that as the one SK book that had no supernatural aspect to it. It was just pure psycho-ness!!! And I know what you mean about it being like home life. Although home life for me was never 'quite' that bad, there were some times that were at least equal to the craziness!!!! I guess sometimes you have to laugh about it in order to keep from crying. I know that feeling too! I hope you are able to get into a better living situation asap. Moving out, even into pure poverty, was better than the abuse I put up with. Try your best to get away from the negativity in your life, it will make a world of difference! I understand how hard it is though.

Its about this little girl who by a completely random chance of events, gets lost in the woods while on a hike with her family. Part of how she survives the scary nights is by listening to the baseball games (with her favorite player Tom Gordon) on her radio. Theres a little bit of supernatural scariness, but its not quite as far out as most of his stuff.
