Let's talk favourites...............

Posted by Kath on February 6, 2008, at 17:55:09

I find it hard to chose just ONE favourite of anything.

What are some of your favourite foods?

I'll go first:
- sliced tomatoes
- broccoli
- CHEESE

Mmmm... Cheese, I miss you! Almost all of you mentioned cheese, or something with cheese in it. I miss cheese so much now that I'm on the MAOI diet!!!

I guess my new favorite would be a grilled salmon burger and salad. (Or fries if I'm feeling particularly gluttonous.)

Or anything with fresh veggies (but then I miss soy & Teriyaki sauce too).

Good cantonese food. My wife is Chinese, but I have had to forego almost all of my chinese favorites since the MAOI diet, because they all have soy sauce or oyster sauce, or tofu of some kind...

Anyways, now it just sounds like I'm longing for foods that I can't eat. But I'm trying lots of new things too which is cool.

CHOCOLATE!!!

(Think about that...)

I like raw carrots; crisp, tart green apples (and like them too with peanut butter and cinnamon); and nearly anything with tomato -- bruschetta, caprese, I often through them in with scampi, just plain sliced on a plate, on salads, etc.

Most of the other things I like, I won't eat...

(Oh, and my favorite fast food is Taco Bell, but I won't eat there, either, most of the time...)

Is the diet really strict, or can you have small amounts of things?

LOL - my favourite vegetable is CHOCOLATE also!!!

Taco Bell is also my fav fast food. It used to be SO inexpensive, but here in Ontario anyhow, it's joined up with Kentucky Fried Chicken & is now WAY more expensive (relatively speaking).

I'm new to it, so I'm not testing my limits. Other people seem to have no problem eating pizza or small amounts of "no-no" foods.

Other Favorites -- bands? Books? Banned books?

Posted by Racer on February 10, 2008, at 16:01:38

In reply to Re: Let's talk favourites..............., posted by Poet on February 7, 2008, at 9:16:23

I've been meandering down Memory Lane this week, and reminding myself of some of my old favorite bands. How about we move on from foods to favorite bands or favorite songs?

(As for books, all I can say is that I just finished a trilogy that was pretty fabulous -- the Bartimaeus Trilogy, by Jonathan Stroud. It's kids books, but I think better than Harry Potter -- up there with "His Dark Materials," in my not at all humble opinion. The Bartimaeus books are "The Amulet of Samarkand," "The Golem's Eye," and "The Gate of Ptolemy." I recommend them to anyone who likes kids books with magic, demons, etc.)

OK, on to the actual subject of bands... These are not necessarily my Engraved In Stone permanent favorites, but they're the ones that have been consistently favorites of mine, in no particular order, which have bubbled up to the surface of my memory this week:

Penetration -- singer Pauline Murray's voice always struck me as wonderful, and they recorded some absolutely infectious songs, like "Danger Signs," "Come Into The Open," and "Shout Above The Noise."

The Damned -- who knew there could be such a thing as "Bubblegum Punk?" I've been playing "Light At The End Of The Tunnel" in my car, and playing "Smash It Up" over and over, as well as "Love Song," two of my favorites. (Smash It Up is pretty well the definitive Bubblegum Punk song...)

Yaz, Yazoo, Alison Moyet -- Alison Moyet's voice is just sublime, and she's recorded some superlative songs over her career. I watched some YouTube videos of her with Vince Clark, back in the day, and while the hair was comical, the sound just transported me, as it always does. (Then again, Vince Clark had a real talent for finding those singers with phenomenal voices...)

Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Roy Loney, Translator, Pentangle, P.F.Sloan, Wreckless Eric, Dave Edmunds, Nick Lowe, Con'tractions, etc -- just a few names that came to mind this week...

{sigh} I think I feel old now... And I really miss the guys from Translator and the Contractions... {sigh} I guess I better end here, before I wax so nostalgic that someone puts a wick in me...

(Speaking of "Nostalgia," I also loved The Buzzcocks...)
