I can't handle this much

Posted by tina on February 3, 2008, at 16:00:31

Somebody please tell me how to let go of the past. The recent past and the distant past. Please. I can't take all this dredged up pain everytime anything happens. The smallest stressful thing will happen and every situation where I felt the same way will be dragged up out of my psyche and make the present pain so much worse.
I can't stop crying about everything.
Please, someone tell me how to let go.

What helps me forget the past sometimes is making plans for the present and the future, and thinking on those versus the past.

OK Tina, I'll tell you my experience.

I've told a lot of people, but I find that a lot of people aren't interested in trying it.

It's FREE
It's EASY
It's WORKED for me about a LOT of things, including my Mom's breast cancer & subsequent death from it

check this site: www.tapping.com (includes a video with step-by-step "follow me doing this" instructions)
and www.tatlife.com

and I'll add another one (have to look up link), with a video for the TAT method, done by 'Marcus' who did the tapping video.

Tina - this CAN HELP a lot of people. I know what you're talking about. I hope you will at least watch the video...preferably alone, so that you can have the volume on and actually try it.

I almost sigh when I tell people about this, because I know most people I've told won't try it.

~~sigh~~

luv, kath

Dear Tina - I'm glad you're reaching out to others here for help. I know you're feeling lonely & AWFUL. I find PB Social such a supportive place, where we can support each other & also just 'chill', sometimes have fun, etc.

I mentioned 2 sites in my previous post. I actually signed up to be on the 'newsletter' for the tapping.com site & a recent newsletter follows.

The EFT & TAT methods are tremendously powerful.

"Magnus", the person who's done the videos for the tapping.com site does have a book which he has for sale. However, he gives TONS of help free via the online videos & the newsletters.
The feelings you've mentioned above are exactly the type of things he's talking about us 'healing' for ourselves.

Okay - here's the newsletter that I "copied & pasted":

One thing that often surprises people who meet me is that I'm not attached to Tapping at all as a way of releasing negative feelings.

Tapping is just the quickest, easiest, most reliable way that I've found to activate the body's releasing mechanism.

That's the thing I'm an evangelical fanatic about - holding on to negative feelings is the biggest thing holding you back, and you should release negativity any chance you get.

So, I'm constantly on the look out for the something easier and faster than Emotional Freedom Technique... a few things have come along, and the most exciting so far is TAT -
'Tapas Acupressure Technique'.

This is based around a pose where you hold some acupressure points... when you do this, some sort of circuit is connected and negative feelings just drift away... and no tapping, or anything!

Apparently Chi Gung Masters have been using it for
millennia, but it took a lovely lady called Tapas Fleming to bring it to the western world. She teaches her own framework for using it, but the basic idea is simple: Focus on a negative feeling, hold the pose, and let it go easily.

The benefit over EFT-style tapping is that you don't have to tap feelings one by one. You can focus on a particular memory and the layers and layers of feelings just peel themselves away.

It seems to release negative feelings faster than tapping, because Tapas says to only do a maximum of 20 minutes a day, while most people can do a couple of hours of tapping before their brain gets tired.

So the TAT pose is a very useful tool to add to your toolbox. Tapping is more appropriate when you have a specific feeling or belief you want to get rid of, and I've found it's more effective than TAT to use that way.

When I found how easy TAT was, right away I sat down and produced this video for a friend of mine in Iraq, who is rather haunted by some of the things he's seen. The counselling he's having is helping, but TAT instantly made him feel better about a particular event he'd witnessed.

I'll be filming some shinier-looking videos soon, but in the meantime, check out 'Tapping for the Troops', it's enough to learn the pose and try it for yourself.

Of course, TAT is perfectly compatible with the ideas in my book, anything you can tap, you can release with TAT:
http://www.tapping.com/a/eD1/e-book.html

ANOTHER fun and surprising technique is called Doyletics... in a nutshell, find a feeling, and say out loud:

"I'm 29 years old and I have this feeling..."
"I'm 25 years old and I have this feeling..."
"I'm 20 years old and I have this feeling..."
"I'm 15 years old and I have this feeling..."
"I'm 12 years old and I have this feeling..."
"I'm 10 years old and I have this feeling..."
"I'm 8 years old and I have this feeling..."
"I'm 5 years old and I have this feeling..."

You should notice that the feeling disappears. Don't ask me how it works, I'm still working it out, and results are a bit sketchy with this one - sometimes it doesn't work on feelings that tapping shifts easily.

But it does work and it's quite fun as a party trick!

Be specific - substitute 'this feeling' for 'this sharp headache' or whatever...

If it hasn't released or changed by '5 years old', carry on for 4, 3, 2, 1 years, and then 9 months, 6, 3, 1 months, 1 day old... minus 1 day old, minus one month, minus 6 months.

I've actually had to go back to "it's 1,000 years ago and I have this hot feeling in my feet". But it did work. Either the feeling was filed under the wrong year in my mind, or I really was dragged through the village and burned as a witch.

Kath I did try it nothing for me now when I think of the past I also think of the future and that the same things that happened in the past could happen in the future. Love Phillipa

Thank you for providing me with so much info. I'll try anything!
I spent 12 hours cleaning out my past yesterday. Sent 8 boxes to charity. I'm not a pack rat but I have had some stuff hanging around for a long time and decided to just turf it.
I'm pretty proud of myself.
I will try the TAT Kath. Anything is better than having my past emotions overwhelm me constantly.

Great Tina!

I hope you're proud of yourself getting rid of all that stuff!!! I would be so happy to do that...oh well, bit by bit.

Let me know about the TAT & feel free to Babblemail me if you have any questions (or ask them here).

hugs, Kath

You deserve to be happy.

OH Kath, I am extremely proud of myself. I feel so free and light. Tomorrow is garbage day and I've got three huge black garbage bags full of stuff I couldn't recycle or donate. I've even got a boxful of old journals I intend to burn in the woodstove on saturday. It's going to be a symbolic releasing of my past. I'm going to make a ceremony of it.
Yay me!!
Thanks for always giving me good advice.

Yay for you Tina.

I am so glad you're doing a 'ceremonial' burning.

One year up at Killbear, I did a ceremony by the water. It included writing things on pieces of paper that I no longer wanted in my life (basically worry about my children etc),

Then I found a broken branch & pushed the 3 or so pieces of paper onto twigs on the branch. I went to the water's edge, wedged the branch among rocks then announced to the universe that I was letting go of these things. I lit the papers & sort of chanted as they burned & the ashes fell into the water & were washed away.

It was very powerful. (of course new worries surfaced, but it felt good to let go of those particular ones).

Gee Tina - you're doing some important stuff, clearing out from the past.

Congratulations.

luv, kath
