Ever scratch your eye while putting on mascara?

Posted by TexasChic on May 8, 2007, at 19:38:20

I did yesterday and and it hurt (mildly), watered and felt like something was in my eye all day. Today its hurting and watering a little. I probably wouldn't have thought anything about it, but I looked it up on the internet and it kind of made me worried. So has anyone else experienced this?

... it was mascara I bought about a week or two ago. Apparently the real danger is in old mascara that can have bacteria in it, causing an infection.

It sounds like you scratched your cornea. Hurts like the dickens.

I would call an opthamologist. He/she may want to give you anti-bacterial drops.

are you putting it on in the car or something?

i'm lucky (knocking on my desk right now) never to have. but, what i hate is when i mess up and put mascara all over the 'above' my eyelids (my eyes are set far back and my lashes are long enough to compensate, that's a good thing, right? of course it is dear!).

how does one scratch their eye while putting it on anyway? am i putting it on wrong or something? i don't get it close enough to.

are you using the pointy end on individual lashes? that's something from a scary movie.....

No, none of that, I just did it. I do tend to be a little jerky or shaky sometimes, so maybe that's it. But it really just seemed to happen for no reason. I'm putting on mascara like every other day and suddenly, Owch!

I thought about making an appt with an eye doctor, but it just doesn't seem very bad. But of course I obsess so I start worrying I'm going to go blind or something. It didn't hurt at all today until this evening, after staring at a computer screen all day. I guess if it still hurts tomorrow I'll make an appointment.

I believe that our eyeballs are very forgiving towards us, as long as we are not using crochet hooks and the like.
By all means, see how they feel tomorrow, DONT WEAR CONTACTS, and if they are still bothering you, see an opthamologist. You might have a wee scratch, or it might be nothing.
But that would be better than not being able to see.

I only wear mascara based on whether I think I might cry that day. If it's a given, I just skip it altogether, instead of making an instant raccoon mask for myself. I have rainproof stuff but it's a pain in the *ss to take off. I always feel I'm sacrificing eyelashes when I try to take the darn stuff off.

I wear nothing but the waterproof stuff. One day, many years ago, I walked the substantial walk from the parking lot to work in misting rain. Luckily I stopped at the bathroom, never expecting to see the racoon that greeted me in the mirror! Ever since I have worn waterproof. I find it washes off in the shower in the morning.

Thanks for the reassurance!

Gosh yes, so many times I've had a collision between a full mascara wand and my eyeball. It can happen even when I'm being careful. I curse myself every time. But I've never had my eye hurt all day afterward. I hope you get yours checked out. Better safe than sorry where eyeballs are concerned.

unless you want to wear an eyepatch?

trust me, it messes with your depth perception and only adds insult to injury when people refer to you as 'the terminator'. (hey, i've called people names. i'm not perfect. ok, i really am, but i wasn't as a teenager.)

on the upside, i do believe the 'pirate' look is coming back into style.

Sorry, it really wasn't attitude I swear! I just have a hard to understand sense of humor. At least that's what I've been told. And I'm a REALLY bad liar. I usually end up just blurting out the truth... which gets me into a lot of trouble I must admit.

i was jsut kiddin. i realized you were too.. sheesh. maybe you just aren't cut out for this online stuff either.

and enough about your fantastic perfect texas boobs already, ok? i've got a perfect butt. and everyoen knows you can buy perfect boobs, but you can't buy a perfect butt dear.

i've been through this discussion before. i've won this debate. i feel very confident that i can win it yet again if you feel like having a debate.

boobs are boobs dear. but, those legs and that butt. that's a whole other story entirely.

now, not feeling so confident are we? (gosh, woman can be so very mean, can't we?)

i know, i only say it because i have no boobs whatsoever. and i don't get it. my family is blessed with them. i suppose i'd really be an odd bird if i had them though. no hips would look rather odd with big boobs (trust me, i see it on my mom).

no boobs (as of yet, but if someone's willing to buy, i'm open for the operation) and proud,

kk

how's that for inconsistency?

have a lovelie day doubleD

oh heavens no. it was great fun (notice the sarcasm?).

i've reported you to the deputies, mister bob, president clinton (he likes big boobs adn i still kinda wish he was the president, as i'd make him like butts better), the queen (she was only about an hour from me recently, come to think of it, so was the president....mwhaaaaaaa... what's with the evil laugh lately, kk? i'm not feeling particularly evil... sorry talking to myself yet again)..

so, you get the idea. i've reported the proper authorities. you shoudl be biting your nails right now dear. just becuase you have great texas boobs (2 thumbs up dear), doesn't mean you get away with everything...

ok, yes it does..

seriously though. i thought we got on great last night :( i was only throwign out insults, as i usually do dear. what's the matter, are you jealous of my lovelie butt? i found that picture, i'll show if you do....

i'm getting ever so close to proposing my dear. don't let me down,

i don't get mad, i get even! i'm spiteful like that.

and when it comes to talking about boobs (be it big, small, round or tall), i'd like to be notified of all threads please!!!!

one important thing about kk dear is that she is almost never serious! (oh, and she has a great butt! that you can take to the bank.)

sorry you were worried that i was upset about your great boobs. i have high hopes of setting an ebay bid for mine. i heard you can do that. or you can set up a website, where people can donate, and those who donate can see the end result. i figure enough people have seen them small, why not, you know? if it gets them big, it's worth a try.

and i'm thinking 'dolly' huge!!!!

have a great friday. and i'm still waiting to see what a great pair of texas boobs look like. guess i'll have to keep waiting....
