I always thought my running nose meant that my headache couldn't have been migraines, but my neurologist explained the connection. Can't recall it now.

Maybe it's time for the heavy duty meds. ER?

I also hear that biofeedback can help control pain... But that's not help to you right now.

I'm so sorry you're feeling so bad. :(

Hello SP

This is nothing to do with your vaso-motor rhinitis/sinus thing?

Pain is worrying and would be easier for me to bear if it was completely meaningless...if it was just a quota of misery I had to put up with, rather than something that frightened me as well.

i'm sorry your head hurts so.

it's the worst sort of pain. when i went to the er once for a migraine-like headache, they gave me mophine --- awwww --- nothing like a good drug to erase the pain. don't know if they give that out for real migraines or not. i was dehydrated w/flu. but if they do, go to the ER.

also, are your migraines allergy induced?

SP at this point I'd hit the ER too as long as you don't go there a lot they can give you a pain shot and it could be something else couldn't it? Or does this happen frequently? Love Phillipa

The headaches haven't been this bad since I first hit puberty. Clearly my hormones are playing bumper cars again. And the pdoc said that cymbalta could be triggering the migraines, so I'm switching to Prozac as soon as I crawl out to the pharmacy to pick up the prescription.

My mom's migraines send her to the ER for a shot of demerol about once a year or so. I'm alone at the moment and last night wasn't feeling well enough to drive myself anywhere.

Last night I took more Feverfew (helped a bit), used cold compresses, then hot compresses, took a xanax and ibuprofen, and went to bed.
The migraine is still here this morning, but not as severe. I'm thinking that wearing a crash helmet might feel good today.

An allergist has ruled out whether I'm actually allergic to anything (I'm not). But I have vasomotor rhinitis, where environmental factors like bright lights, barometric changes, and other stupid everyday things trigger allergic-type reactions. These same triggers induce migraines for me (I've known this for a long time). Kind of a double-whammy.

I see my GP today. I printed out a list of neurologists that are on my insurance. I'll ask him for a referral to one. I haven't seen a neurologist since my migraines were first diagnosed, um, 32 years ago.

Thanks, everyone, for all your concerned responses. Sorry about my gross descriptions of the pain.

Pharmacy refused to fill the scrip for Prozac, citing interaction with the migraine medication Maxalt.
A call to the pdoc's office resulted in being instructed to immediately STOP all antidepressants. Let the migraine cluster subside, and then take it from there. So, to go from 60mg a day of Cymbalta to zero = withdrawal! I honestly couldn't tell you if I'm depressed right now. In a lot of pain, yes. Frustrated and tired, yes.

I hate this body. I hate my brain. I want a new one whose wiring has been certified as fully functioning. argh.

I don't blame you for feeling SOOO frustrated!! Sucks big time!! You shouldn't have to suffer for DAYS with such a headache.

I hope you do go to a neurologist as soon as you are able. I'm sure there are plenty of new things on the market to help you avoid these in the future.

I suppose such experiences help to build moral character <snort>. I'm currently perfecting my hang dog expression. The cat is suitably impressed. In balance, I'd much rather undergo a root canal treatment.

Argh. As if the migraine weren't bad enough? They want to add serotonin withdrawal?

I guess the pharmacy call gave them visions of lawsuits dancing in their heads.

Ya know - I WISH. The migraines used to be as predictable as my calendar. The past few months, they've been wonky, as has everything else. I used to get one on the day of my period. Now (like when I was a teenager) they just pop up any old time.
Going to see a neurologist.
Toughing out this weekend, I will be OK.

My head is more than happy to accept your hug.
Even my cat has noticed that I'm more miserable than usual. But she resists being placed on top of my head.

I'll be ok. I've done serentonin withdrawal once before - during a hurricane. At least I know how it feels and what to expect. I'm armed with xanax and ambien. As long as I can get through the next few days without losing my cool, I'll be ok.

Boy, I totally appreciate being able to rant here!!

Nope, Not starting Prozac until everything is flushed out of my system. I'm to call my pdoc on Tuesday and we'll take it from there.
It's a good thing I don't work, because I don't think I could right now. I do look like a movie star wearing my sunglasses indoors.

Headache is gone after a bunch of bed rest and darkness. The inside of my head is feeling kind of bruised. So far, I can't tell that the Cymbalta has been halted for 2 days. I'm not freaking out at all. Maybe I went through some withdrawal while I was on the migraine medication?? Maybe the bad stuff is ahead? - though I wouldn't think so.
For now, I feel really well apart from being achey.

I'm going to a yoga class this morning so that will help the hurting bits.

((((Kath)))) thanks for asking, this was pretty scary to go through while home alone this week.

Today I have naproxen sodium, and Reglan (metoclopramide). Relief from pain. Tomorrow I start a very slow titration of Zonegran as a preventative medication.

Or, as my husband said this afternoon, What took you so long?
thanks for your thoughts
