oooh Larry,
best stay clear of that one.

That one is deep.

Larry, i have a question for you:
Do I want to go back to the neuroscience conference in 15 minutes to learn more about synapse pruning and neuronal migration, animal models of such and such... ?

So that I can learn more big words like the word of the day above?

LARRRRYYYY- I need you to inspire my inner geek---PLEASE inspire me.

otherwise, I'll just play on babble the rest of the afternoon and go home and vacuum my living room.

I tried my therapist's name and got:
Lurk amid sane

One of my colleagues:
Virile orb-shaped tip

Sadly, no exciting results for my own name.

B2,
I never knew neuroscience was so cool. you made me laugh :)

neuronal migration typically happens in the first 4 months of gestation (in humans). ALTHOUGH, there is recent evidence that new brain cells are created in adult humans. Perhaps most intriguingly, there are reports that prozac increases the production of new cells in rats. (I may have botched this, but I think that's the 6 o'clock news version of the study).

Animal models... Definitely Cheetahs. They are slim, athletic, and sexy and their fashion sense is classic, yet incredibly trendy.

Racer,
does you inner geek like prion proteins?
These are little strings of amino acids that hang out as solitary creatures, but then, when they touch each other, they change shape ("conformation") and then they are a pair. And then another solitary prion protein comes along, and it touches the clump, and then it changes shape too. It's like a chain reaction. Pretty fun, except that it's usually associated with brain illness (bovine spongiform encephelophathy). Mad Cow disease, which you can also get from eating squirrel brains, and human brains.

Until today, I thought prion proteins were only associated with bad brain stuff. Today I find out that there is a new kind of prion protein that is activated by serotonin, and is associated with the maintenence of long term memories. Before you get all excited. I should mention that this research was done in Sea Slugs and Yeast Cells. So. Any extrapolation to trying to apply this stuff to your own experience on SSRI's while exploring repressed memories with your therapist. Well, it's quite an extrapolation

I like the image though- a giant sea slug on a psychotherapy couch, talking about their memory for the time when the researcher shocked them, and their little gills retracted.

:)

Hope that quenches your inner geek!
