Consistency

Posted by javableue on May 14, 2006, at 8:48:08

I posted a thread yesterday (I think) and it occured to me how long it's been since I posted here. I've been reading, just haven't had anything to say (or that I dared say) for the longest time. I find this happens a lot, here and on the few other boards I post at. It isn't that I don't want to be involved, I just can't figure out how to do so consistently.

Any input?

I go through spells where I compose posts and just can't put them up there. Like, who wants to read any of my whimpers, when others have much more significant events going on?
Also I have reluctance in replying to some posts where my input won't really contribute anything except support. I'd rather have something helpful to say, especially when someone is looking for understanding.

I just struggle through when I get like this. Sometimes it helps me just to write and write, even if I don't post. Eventually I get my nerve back and venture out there.

Guess we're all different well we knew that anyway. Even If I know nothing about the subject I like to post at least to let someone know I have read about their problem and try to offer support. Love Phillipa

Sometimes I read a post and then get back to it at a later time to post a reply. I let myself think about the post a while before I reply.

I think it's okay not to post all the time. I also think it's okay to post whatever is on your mind...even if it's silly or makes sense only to you. I find those posts very interesting. I like how you just posted about not being able to post all the time.

This happens a lot... or if I want to offer support, I daren't because I might not know the other poster all that feel and fear being intrusive... it becomes a vicious cycle at that point.

I try that too. Makes me nervous sometimes, because on a board where I posted for a good five years, I always tended to stumble badly on my first post-break posts and elicit negative attention... not the best encouragement there! I can't imagine anything of that nature (at least to any serious degree) happening at Babble, but it still makes me gunshy about the whole thing.

I do like that in theory but am far too much of a chickenwuss. I have a good deal of admiration for those who can.

It seems to be a trend lately. I started a recent therapy session with "Well, Dr. B, I don't know what to say to you today." (Okay, so I don't really call my therapist Dr. B... but I might if I addressed him as anything at all. It seems like the perfect balance between Dr. Lastname and Firstname.) Reminds me of sleep-deprived days in my Creative Writing class where, during our quick writes, I would generally spend half the time on how I didn't know what to write.
