The whole experience is very triggering for me:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/poli/20060304/msgs/622102.html

There's no instructions as to where to get the photos done, just the way they are supposed to look and the size (in millimeters, too). That's why I emailed the consulate, because none of the places I've been to can do it.

I've had success getting "out of the ordinary" passport type photos taken at larger travel agencies..

Or, if you have a colour printer, maybe get some photo graphic paper and make your own? I can help with image sizing if that would help.

Deep breaths.. it *will* all work out in the end..

Nikki's idea seems like a good one. I wish I could offer more than a hug. Gotta run, though. I'm seriously late.

And I sweat buckets when exercising. We can sweat together anytime.

Take care, gorgeous.

Have you looked in the phone book or online? I like Yahoo Yellow Pages - http://yp.yahoo.com/
I looked up 'passport' and there were alot of companies around here that seem to do just passports. Maybe they would know more.

I worked in a portrait studio in the mall, and although we took passport pictures with a special camera, we never really got much more info than "press that button". So I can see why you got no help there.

You probably already tried the internet/phone, but I thought I'd suggest it anyway. I hope you feel better soon!

CS,

I am SO SO sorry! I hate anything with red tape. Can we include insurance rules in that? Makes me sick and just want to quit!

I SO do not envy you! Who knew just how special you were? I mean not just a regular passport, but a super deluxe passport!

Only the best for one of the sweetest on the boards.

Sometimes men can be soooo hurtful! Usually they don't mean to be, but they just don't think.

That's why they need a good *ss-kickin' every now and then.

Good luck with the photos.

I am going to wait and see what the consulate says about who to go to. I bet they have some reciprocal palm sliming going on with a photographer in the area.

And I went for a long walk while I fumed. Then I soaked in the tub while I cried. I feel better but still all the rotten stuff I said before.

I think I've seen signs in the bigger post offices.

I doubt he meant anything personal by suggesting it. That's the sort of thing my husband might say and it's more a comment on his health concerns than on me. Well, maybe his family's health concerns too. Men can be such do-ers, bless them.

Of course, I wasn't there and didn't hear his tone or any of the nuances that would clue me in, so I could be all wet.

Nah, he said it with all innocence and good intentions. It just was not what I wanted to hear today.

The photo places you see signs for can't take the pictures the Canadian gov't wants. They are the wrong size, too small by 1/16th of an inch, and they'll be rejected if I try to send them in.

At least today is almost over.

Can you get a digital picture taken somehow? Then you can adjust the size of the image, have it printed as a 4 x 6, and cut out a piece the exact size they want...

My husband got his application pictures taken at Kinkos. I'm assuming you have them in the wilderness? (If not, we'll go get them taken when you're here... :-D ) They do all sorts of pictures, citizenship, passport, etc. And if they can do the pictures to apply for legal residency, I strongly suspect they can make Canada happy.

Or not... And I'm resisting the urge to make Canada jokes...

As for the rest of it, do you think Mr Skies might have thought that having someplace to go regularly would improve your mood? Exercise, no matter how much we might not like to admit it, does help... Whatever it is, I would bet he was offering because he loves you and wants you to be happy.

'Course, I say that because I am quite fond of you and very much want you to be happy...

i'm a day late and a dollar short as usual, but i wanted to let you know, as many others have, that you are SO not alone in this body imge sh*t.

i've been as big as 300 (whilst living with husband #2) to as little as 112 or so (after 1st separation and my downfall into Xanax). and neither weight made me feel any better about myself.

some how, luckily for me, i seem to have made "peace" with "inja's body attitude, self image and self accceptance". oh hell, i binge from time to time, but haven't purged in a very long time.

it's taken me a long time to get here, but i worked hard on it. i truly did. strange thing is that i never really dieted to get from 300 lbs. to my current 140ish lbs. it just seemed to drop off so to speak, when i learned how to love inja 1st, put her 1st, and took the rest of it One Day At A time (ODAT).

now that hubby #2 dumped me-a few years ago, and i met and miraclously fell for #3, my weight had stabilized, with no more that 4-6 lbs. back and forth (i.e. holidays, etc).

CS, my heart hurts for you because i know exactly the things you say to yourself in your head. i think i would be making a good guess if i were to say that you would never speak to anyone (about this issure or something else) like the way you speak to yourself.

CS... put your arms around you, tell yourself that you love yourself, your ok, and that you are INDEED GOOD E'NUF! i've been doing a LOT of reading on these boards, and lookit CS... you happen to be one of the best "support talk" people here (IMHO).

so... be your own best friend and not the enemy. look in the mirror if you can (i couldn't for 19 years), and tell CS that you love her, you accept her JUST THE WAY SHE IS (not yelling here, just emphasizing) and that she is a very valuable link in this chain we call life.

i'm only relating to how it worked for me. everyone is different. but truthfully? it really could be the start of some serious self inage healing.

my thoughts prayers are with you.

your friend,
inja

Hi ClearSkies,

I will be happy to swap citizenship with you. I promise to memorize the lyrics to *Oh Canada* and do high tea on the Queen's birthday. I keep telling my husband that Canda is looking better and better. I know the grass is greener on the other side of the border, but at least it's green not a blue or red state.

Have you tried water aerobics (unless you are afraid of water) for exercise? Clumsy me can do it. It's low impact, high cardiovascular and the water keeps me from falling over. I used to fall over when I did land aerobics. Wearing a swimsuit is a pain, but trust me, nobody in any of my classes feels comfortable in one. You won't be alone.
