I love shoes. My feet are the only part of me that’s a standard size. I can’t find clothes that fit properly (too tall, too fat); I can’t find hats that fit properly (small head) but I can buy shoes any day of the week (or I could if I didn’t have three kids to feed).

Six months ago I had forty five pairs of shoes. I had flat shoes, high heels, short boots, long boots, very long boots (!), red shoes, green shoes, running shoes, dancing shoes, football boots, walking boots, shoes for work, shoes for parties, shoes for going to the beach and shoes for going out to dinner…

But all those shoes took up a lot of space and I was expecting my third child, so six months ago I had to say goodbye to half of them. Now I only have 22 pairs of shoes.

And the saddest thing is that since I became diabetic I’ve been advised that comfy shoes are a must. If I wear shoes that rub or pinch I risk getting injuries that won’t heal and could lead to amputations… So all my prettiest shoes are gone. I particularly miss the brown platform sandals that added six inches to my height (bringing me up to 6’5”). But they were just not diabetes-friendly.

However, I recently bought a pair of pink kitten heel shoes covered in sequins, so I can’t complain too much.

*LOL*

I have SO little interest in shoes.. Oh, I do like shoes, ofcourse.. but comfort is my aim in life *L* They laugh at me at work as there I am in my geeky Clark originals (I'm very much a flat, soft soled mary jane kind of gal *L*), or when its warm my birkenstock t-bars (I was wearing birk's before they became fashionable)

I feel silly in fancy shoes though, they're just so NOT me.. I'm a geek, I dress like a geek.. but as the girls at work say, if I did it different in any way, I just wouldn't be Nikki!

Now, I did see this pair of Hello Kitty mary janes on ebay that I do neeeeed.. honest!!

Except for Mary Janes which I love!

cool, so there. I would really prefer not to have a shoe obsession. I am running out of space LOL. I like comfort as well, and rarely wear high heels - not comfortable at all. Clarks are nice and comfy. Easy Spirit and Rockports are comfy as well.

Those are so nice!

I like the little flowers too.
Simple flat Mary Jane's are so hard to find here.
I always end up accidentally wandering into the little girls shoes because I see them and think "Oh those are perfect" and then I realize they're size 6x.
The one's for adult women always seem to have heels and that just defeats the purpose.

I like the geek look too, on other women. I can't pull it off. I have an over-the top feminine look (without any accessorizing, I don't even wear jewelery) And if I dress geek-like, I look like I'm wearing props for a men's calender. (Yes I am *complaining* not bragging)
I have more fun with it now, as I've gotten older, but I really really did not like it when I was younger, I wanted to be funky and interesting looking.

I usually only wear my gym shoes. I love them, and they are so comfortable. I just bought 2 more pair of the exact kind because I run, so I have to retire them every so often. I have 2 pair of sandle that I rarely wear, and two pair of "casual" shoes that I rarely wear, and maybe one pair of heels that I try to avoid.

BUT, I do love earrings, and can't live w/o them!
That's my obsession.

Yes, funky and interesting looking is what I want *L* But I also need to be a damn site thinner to carry it off *LOL*

I've managed to hunt out a few good places that doo MJ's.. Look for Clarks Originals and Dr Martins.. they both do nice ones. I do own a pair of Prada mary janes actually (I was on honeymoon and feeling terribly rich! Its was a once in a life time splurge!).. Ebay can be a fab source of them too.. I never buy second ones, but they do brand new ones too..

Hmm, maybe I do like shoes after all!!!

I usually only have 4 pair - 1 pr sandles, 1 pr sneakers, 1 pair warm shoes and 1 pr plain flat pumps just in case I have to wear a dress.

I bought 2 pairs of Uggs last year and felt decadent. My daughter (the Marcos type) was shocked!

I had a pair of red patent pumps, with really high heels when I was about 20. I thought those things were the coolest, most gorgeous pair of shoes around LOL. I wore them as much as I could. Yup, when I was in my red patent pumps, I thought I was all that and a bag of chips (NOT!!). What was I thinking?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Probably the same thing I was when I was 16..
I wore heels every day to school..
YICK! I cannot even think of it now, not just for comfort but for appearance.. I must have looked ridiculous.

Shoes? {pricks up ears}

In reply to Re: If you're a freak then so am I, posted by AuntieMel on June 20, 2005, at 12:31:50

Shoes, yes, I have shoes. Last week, in fact, I acquired many more shoes.

My now late best redheaded friend and I shared a love of shoes. We both had dozens of pairs. She was talking to her daughter once about my shoes, and said something about not understanding why I had so many pairs of black shoes. Her daughter replied, "But they're all different *shades* of black!"

My friend died last month. Her daughter had me come over to help go through her shoes, since I was one of the few people who could share shoes with her. My friend was 4'10", I am (well, was until I started shrinking) 5'9". She wore a 5 1/2 or 6, I wear a 6 or 6 1/2. I have a huge bag in the living room as I type, filled with shoes. Some I can and will wear, but others remind me so strongly of my friend that I have them to look at and hold when I miss her.

I love shoes. From my black and white Spalding saddle oxfords, which I bought in 1979 and still sometimes wear; to my black T-strap Capezio tap shoes that I wore to work nearly every day for years (no taps on them, but they were the most comfortable heels I've ever owned -- no surprise, since they're professional dancing shoes, and those dancers need well crafted footwear); to the black Steve Madden sandals with chunky heels; to the various heels I wore to work; to my over-the-knee, nosebleed high heeled Nana boots; to my little, flat, woven green suede Cole Haan mules; to my beloved semi-custom Effingham field boots; right on down to my every-day Ariat zip up paddock bootss. I love my shoes.

By the way, in case anyone wondered, I love shoes.

Racer, I'm so sorry about your friend.
I remember that story about the 'shades of black'
I even remember someone replying "smart girl"
I think you'd mentioned it here before, or on 2000.
I thought about it just now, when I saw the title of this post, I'm just so sorry, I'm glad you have her shoes to hold. I agree with Tamar, there is something really poignant about that, poetic almost
