I'm kind of tired of my handle...it gives people preconceived notions of me. This was ok when I wanted to be really anonymous, but now I'm kind of hating it.
Should I do it? Any suggestions?

I thought of doing that once or twice when I had humiliated myself on Babble. (which I'm not saying you've done. I'm talking about me). But I figured my style of writing would make it relatively difficult to do without detection, and it might make people feel some suspicion toward me. And if you tell people who you used to be, people know it anyway.
I finally decided to make "Dinah" mean something different, rather than changing my name from "Dinah". Of course, I rather like Dinah. If you don't like your posting name, that's a perfectly fine reason to change.

I think of changing my name occasionally...
But a name like 'Dinah' or 'alexandra_k' don't really have connotations aside from what people get to know you as...
But 'shygirl' tells people you are probably a girl and you are probably shy.
But you are only sometimes shy...
How about 'shygirl:-P'

if you want to change it, change it! Make it your opportunity to choose a really cool name that you like, or a name that you feel better fits your personality. I know there are ways to alert people that you're the same "you" even though your name has changed.
What are you thinking of? Any names come to mind?

I was thinking of having a name that involves the things I like...lets see, I like green, my hamster, astronomy, science, nature, flowers...hmmm...the list goes on!

I think it might be a good idea to change your name. You really don't seem like a very shy person to me. You seem to be friendly and outgoing.
Why would your Mom call you shy? It doesn't seem to fit.

Thank-you so much. :-) I'm really very quiet IRL...always too afraid to speak up for fear of looking stupid (my social anxiety). I guess inside I'm really quite the extrovert :-) I like to think that this is the real me that is too afraid to come out IRL...although the "shy" me is also a part of who I am...guess I don't show that part much here. :-P

...but people would probably think the "m51" parts means I'm a 51 yr old male or like 51 yr old males! For me, M51 refers to the first galaxy I ever saw...it totally blew me away...the Whirlpool Galaxy.

I chose Deneb because Deneb the star is fascinating to me. Deneb is also called Alpha Cygni...it is the alpha star in the constellation Cygnus or the Swan. One thing I didn't quite like about the name Deneb was that it means "tail" in Arabic...I don't want to be known as a tail. lol
I also liked the name Bellatrix...which is the Gamma star in the constellation Orion. (the right shoulder of Orion) It is Latin and means warrioress. I liked the look of the word Bellatrix, but I didn't like associating war with my name.
I finally picked Deneb because it really is one of my favourite stars. It is a white supergiant. It is not the brightest star in the sky from Earth. The magnitude of brightness of Deneb is 1.25, compared to the brightest star in our skies, Sirius, mag. -1.46. The full moon has a magnitude of about -13. Even though Deneb is not the brightest in our skies, it is still the superstar of our galaxy because it is intrinsically the brightest star in the MilkyWay. Deneb is about 1600 light-years away from our Sun. In order to be as bright as a mag. 1.25 star, this means that it produces about 60,000 times the power output of the Sun.
I also picked Deneb because it is shorter than Shy_Girl and easier to pronounce: DENeb
I wanted to incorporate my love of hamsters and all things green into my new name...but it would have made my new name exceedingly long and cumbersome because I don't have enough imagination to come up with something shorter. :-)
