world is spinning

hey all,

Sorry i haven't been here in a while--everything has been crazy the last few weeks. I got evicted and had to move in with my mom--somebody i haven't lived with since i was 12. my parents are divorced and my dad has custody, so I see my sisters every other weekend. it has been nice to spend time with them--i have rarely seen them the last 5 years. I found out that my baby sister (OK she is going on 12 now) is quite the poet. I get along very well with my mom but i have a lot of anger towards my stepdad. nobody here knows that i know that he beat my brother once and i don't want to bring it up. my stepdad is very nice towards me--always has been. but i hate him for what he did and how he constantly degrades my mom. something to work on in therapy, I suppose, since i start with a new therapist next Monday.

I have been trying to find work. there is an opening for a assistant manager position at a nearby store i am hoping i can get. it would pay a lot of money and if i get it, i would not have to declare bunkruptcy. I could easily pay off all my debts in a year before returning to school to finish my degree. I am very worried about getting very depressed if i don't get the job. I have about two years of management experience--so i am qualified, but i just hope that i don't have a panic attack at the interview. very worried about that...

most of the time, I pooh-pooh "coping skills", but the job interview is exactly the type of situation that they can actually help.

Practice some self-validating sentences like
1) I am a person of great intelligence and strong character.
2) I am qualified for the position that I am interviewing for.
3) I have exceptional people skills.
4) I am capable of getting through any situation.
5) I am charismatic and likeable.

I find that if I convince myself that I can do the job, I can convince the interviewers.(And, by the way, I've learned this stuff I listed above is true about you by reading your posts!)

Best of luck to you, in all of it. Just take one step at a time and give yourself permission to deal with the other things in therapy; then, last step, in life, okay?!? But job is priority one.

Go get 'em !!!

Just to add to sunny's great list, I've found that visualizing any and all scenarios that could confront me in an interview helps a lot. I used to be a sales rep and it helped me be prepared for any situation. One client or more; in an office or a conference room, etc.
I once went for an interview with a radio station and the guy sat me about 10' away. Completely threw me off. I don't know why but it did.
Anyway, I just open my mind to whatever may come my way and it negates any surprises. And, it works. Of course, you also visualize yourself having the job before you even set foot in the interview.
Good luck.

((((Smokey))))
Great to hear from you :-)
Thats really cool that you are getting to know your siblings better.
It must be hard living with your mum. Brings back lots of childhood stuff... I don't much like to see my parents for that reason.
I really hope you get the job.
Really.
I start with a new t on Monday too :-)
Good luck to us :-)
I hope she is really really nice and that you finally have someone you deserve.
Let us know how the job goes - either way.
If you don't get it IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.
It just means that there is something better out there for you.

Research the company you're applying with, do your homework on the job itself, what type of questions you're likely to be asked about yourself, how you would answer them. And you won't have a panic attack, going in prepared. Not as likely to in any case.

Thanks all! You have given me some great tips and i appreciate that. Tomorrow i get to call and check to make sure the manager got my resume and maybe i will get asked to go in for an interview--who knows? If i don't get the job--i will just go back to school next fall and finish up. not a big deal. but i do hope i will get it!
