Beware of VANITY!!!

Posted by 64bowtie on February 7, 2005, at 13:45:49

As a textbook 'enabler-placator' in my 'family-of-origin' 'drama-trauma', I was certain that I grew up totally self efacing and giving; just this side of a doormat! So, VANITY was an unknown concept in my lexicon. No one EVER, EVER, EVER, accused me of being venal or vain; not for a minute!

BUT WAIT.....!

I now know that my vanity retarded my growth and recovery. I've laid it all out before, so I will just say that it is real!

1. Arrogance is also VAIN-IGNORANCE!
2. DENIAL is held in place by VAIN dismissals of knowledge and our own wrong-doings.
3. Grumbling is caused by our VAIN notions that its all someone elses fault, and that things SHOULD be better than they are! (who says?)

Since my many epiphanies concerned with my vanity, recovery and wholeness and freedom and happiness have happened, "...and I ain't goin' back to the 'dark days' of before for nobody, no-how"!

Don't these contradict each other?

<<< Please accept my response as being objective and not fault-finding...

I see no connection between the two concepts. One is grumbling which is a common bad habit that is very destructive. I center the notion on the person with the bad habit of doing the grumbling.

I see the second concept as bewaring of destructive people who might approach you. What kind of destructive people? People who are so narrow minded they think the world they know is the only world there is. If you refer back to my 'beebee in a boxcar' post, I pointed out how vain I would have to be to assume the world as I know it is the only world there is.

An aside, this assumption is ridiculous prima-facia because the world will be different tomorrow and tomorrow hasn't happened yet; I can't know the world as it will be tomorrow. This is, like I said, a prima-facia notion and counterpoint. However, there are a myriad of other relationships of information that makes such a narrow minded person dangerous to be around. Ergo, avoid 'em!

Gabbi, please keep those questions coming. We can find a harmonic we can agree on, I hope!
