Thanks. Doesn't sound like I'd be missing much by leaving this one off of my approved eating list!

Ew, marmite. It is very different from vegemite. I have never met anybody who liked them both and which one you like tends to be the one you are raised on.

Marmite is made by concentrating animal stuff,
Vegemite is made by concentrating vegetable stock.

Marmite reeks, I can't stand it but I crave vegemite sometimes, probably for the salt and the vitamin B.

I had never heard of marmite until recently when I learned that it was forbidden on the MAOI diet. Now I understand why. I don't think I'll be missing much! Thanks.

I had always heard marmite was a yeast extract, made from the sludge left in the bottom of the beer casks from the aging process. It's very rich in the B vitamins.

It's great on toast, but I sometimes just grab me a fingerful out of the jar.

Marmite is English. Vegemite is Australian (right?). They are similar in taste to the uninitiated, but different to someone that grew up with one of them.

WOW, ya beat me to it! After learning today that chickens are not force fed until they pop (that would be turkeys and ducks and the popping may well be inadvertant) I hunted down my flatmates jar of marmite. The jar says it contains derivatives of 'barley, wheat, and soy' so it is vegetarian friendly and is a high source of vitamin B, as you say :-)

I shouldn't really traffic in empirical matters...

Ew Ew Ew!!!

I always thought that vegemite was a kiwi thing, but was recently proven wrong when I went to Australia. It is indeed an Aussie thing. Now the pavlova, on the other hand is a Kiwi thing - no matter what any Aussie tries to tell you :-)

Yum. Where has this delicacy been all my life?

Actually, I am curious to try them both now.
