Oh, it's so hard to choose just ONE! But I'll try. I'm feeling you, with the crisy breads and cheeses and wines..I'm feeling it...
but here are my three for now, anyway:
1. The crispy skin from a just-off-the-BBQ grilled chicken that has been rubbed with a wonderful spice mix
2. A very cold beer with a wedge of lime
3. The first bite of a crisp, firm watermelon triangle slice at the peak of ripeness: Not mealy and overless mushy, and not white and underdeveloped.
Yum!
Thanks for asking! :)

I adore them! They'd have to take a backseat to grandma's homemade bread with butter dripping, or to her dumplings. But they are my very favorite fruit. Unbelievably short season, tho.

There is a small historical marker, perhaps 60 miles from my home, where the original Macintosh apple tree grew. After suffering severe damage in a fire, it passed away in 1910.
I planted a graft from Thomas Jefferson's favourite apple, the Esopus Spintzenberg, taken from Monticello. That apple was also the favourite of Marie Antoinette.
My favourite early apple is Vista Bella, but it's dang hard to find. My favourite main season apple is the Empire (Macintosh x Red Delicious).

You northerners are dang lucky, apple-wise.
I remember reading about that tree. I'm no expert, I was just looking for a mail order source of Macintosh apples. We haven't had any halfway decent ones here for years.

> (yeah, I'm an amateur pomologist)My apple experience and knowledge consist of my entire family being part of the harvest of a family friend's orchard. We'd be paid in apple juice that dad either made into cider, or blew up bottles attempting to do so. The farmer would bring a picnic lunch out to us in the orchard. It was such an idyllic time that I have used this scene in my meditations.
The smell of freshly pressed apples transports me to those summers, when I was young and stupid.

My brother once made a cheesy cherry cheesecake, flavoured with Kirsch (sp?). I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
