how often do you put back the grocery cart?

Posted by JenStar on August 20, 2004, at 17:46:24

just curious!

For me - about 90%. If the parking lot seems esp. unsafe or the cart corral is about a mile away...I let it go. Usually I figure that the exercise can't hurt me and I bring 'er in.

hee hee..

I thought the post was going to be about online shopping when you get to checkout/cart...which I cancel a lot.
I've never drove and now 95% shopping I do is online.

Pretty much all the time

unless the cart corral is less than 2 parking spots away. I do try to leave it someplace where it isn't blocking a parking spot or going to hit a car.

After all, they pay people to collect carts right? I'd be depriving teenagers of work if I did it myself.

Always...another rule follower here. At our Safeway, the people who go out to gather carts are seniors...as in senior citizens. No way am I going to force them to go after my cart!

I've seen the wind send the carts way, way, cross the parking lot.

What I try to do now is park right by the corral. I get a bit more walking in going to the store and back. And it's easy to ditch the cart.

Almost always

I noticed that a few grocery stores in the area where I live have started charging 25 cents to get a cart. The carts are locked, and a quarter will unlock them. If you return the cart and lock it again, you get your quarter back.

because I feel so guilty if I ditch the cart somewhere! It really sucks to be so conscientious, especially on rainy days! :)

I'm not sure if you're kidding or not.. if so, you may find this triggering...

I used to really pride myself on never using shopping carts. I'd always use a basket, and carry out the groceries myself. I guess I thought pushing a cart seemed too housewifey or too middle-aged or something. It was just a couple years ago I discovered how wonderful carts are. No more metal basket handles cutting into my arms while I shop. No more anxiety as the basket gets heavier and heavier and I still have more to buy. What's more, I can put my carried-in starbucks on the little kiddie-seat. Plus it's fun to drive a shopping cart-- they're big and rattley and take up space. I feel powerful pushing one around. Now I always get one, even if I only fill up the front basket part.

Always always always

If there isn't a cart corral close by I take it back in to the store or give it to someone who's going in. My husband think's I'm daft for doing it .

sweetie, my sister once hit me in the ankle with one, causing me to keep my arm outstretched when anyone i shop with uses one. i can't use them. they honestly scare me. and i know the bruised arm syndrome all too well.

my friend recently hit me with one causing the fear to come back with full force. my arm is still outstretched.

you bring coffee to the supermarket too? maybe we should shop together?

i bought a frilly skirt today!!! yahoo!! all the old man said was, 'i hope you don't look like a slut.' i hope i do!

Thanks for your cart talk!

hi guys,
thanks for responding! It is cool to hear about different things from different people. I enjoy it. :)

When I was growing up as a teen some of the local stores tried out the 'quarter in the slot to get the cart' thing. My poor dad HATED it -- he never seemed to have a quarter in winter, or else the quarter would jam and the chain would not release...and being the thrifty man that he is, he could NOT leave the cart once shopping was done w/out getting back his quarter. My sisters & I were driven to distraction by the quarter carts! I was glad when the stores phased them out.

Karen, I'm sorry you have a cart fear! That sucks. The skirt sounds interesting, though -- have you worn it out yet? Any catcalls/comments/positive response from it? I hope so!

Oh-oh. I think Tabitha might be on the verge of buying an SUV. I thought I was vehemently opposed to those gas-guzzling SUV's, but a few months ago, I had to rent one for about two days, and I must admit, it really was fun to drive. I liked sitting up higher, I felt safe and, yes, somewhat powerful. I definitely felt safer because I was driving on the Interstate highway, and I felt more protected, especially when those huge trucks drove by.

I just got griped out last weekend by some guy (customer)! He said, "I see, to lazy to put up the cart." I was quite a ways from the store and had put it between two spaces so it wouldn't run into anything. He was just so mad! I found myself politely arguing with him and finally realized how ridiculous it was and just left. I've worked at a grocery store, and that's what sackers do, they gather the carts, and they sack your stuff. Whatever dude!
