Hi
Your problems sound similar to mine...I find it hard to quit smoking - I'd like to.
Do you think you're imagination is stronger than other people/more aware of things around you and too self conscious?
I'm not saying the things are all in your head - I hate it when someone tells me that...but our minds can wind us up even more sometimes.
...Imagination can be a gift but a curse with a mental illness .
I hope you feel well soon.

That post wasn't too helpful..I'd recommend to get arty and paint draw your dreams on a big board/canvas..you don't need talent but you may find you have one

My dreams have always been sick..i don't sleep well so always tired..but when i get energy I paint-- it's like a mind exorcism.
It may work for you.

I have dreams/nightmares all the time. I am pretty sure mine are medication related. But they are always vivid and about water. And Im always trying to get away from someone/thing or trying to reach someone and can never make it. Before meds, when i had a nightmare, i would tell myself in the dream to wake up because it wasnt real. But now, i cant do that. I just wake up wet from sweat (yuck)! But sometimes if my dreams are really upsetting, i write it down in my little book of night terrors. It helps to get it on paper so its out of your mind!!!!
good luck,
S

I know what you mean, and i have written down dreams like that. I just call them "night terrors" and I cant help what i dream about. But i had one with my mom & my daughter. And it so horribly disturbed me..Ive tried to block it, but i remember my mom wearing a leather sex outfit! gross! and her brining in naked men and wanting me to have sex with them. I ran out of the house screaming looking for my daughter and she was sitting at a picnic table full of dolls! it was awful. But, there is nothing wrong you. And you certainly cant help the dreams. Lets hope its not a repressed memory or anything!
Good luck,
S

Chick,

I feel a good therapist would be advisable. I think it would be very helpful for you to talk about the content of these distubing dreams. When things are hidden, they appear to be scarier. It is when we bring them out into the light that they lose their power over us.

I agree with Shadow, a therapist would be a really good idea. You know, dreams aren't always what they seem. The sexual abuse part may be a substitute for something else in your life. Like maybe you feel out of control, or that someone is taking advantage of you. Also, some of your problems sound like me and my OCD. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is an anxiety disorder. Sometimes I have awful thoughts like what it would be like if my nephew got killed. I'll actually get really upset and cry over it. But I now know its part of being obsessive compulsive. I'm so afraid that something will happen to him that my brain won't let it go.

Have you ever done Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)? Cognitive-behavioral therapy is based on the belief that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations, and events. The idea is we can change the way we think to feel / act better even if the situation does not change. I'm thinking of giving it a try myself.

Hope you're doing better today! Hang in there.

You know, I asked my T to about CBT, and guess what? That's what we've been doing all this time! I knew the philosophy sounded the same, but I thought it was something more specific and structured, but apparently its just a form of therapy that believes in order to solve our problems and overcome our fears, we have to change the way we think about things . Going to this T has really has been an eye opening experience and completely changed the way I think. I guess now I know why!

Hope things are going better today!
