the Bachelor, again.

Posted by tabitha on April 7, 2004, at 21:23:15

Anyone going to watch? Or watching already? After Average Joe Hawaii I swore I'd never watch another reality dating show. That one just about did me in. Yet here I am at home, and it comes on in an hour and a half.. and there's nothing to stop me from tuning in. Should I exercise will power and prevent it from coming into my home?

Where've you been Karen? Don't you watch TV or read People magazine at all? It's a series on ABC where a bunch of women compete for one man. This is like the 7th season. He's conventionally handsome and rich (pro football player). If I start watching it I'll get hooked in and have to endure the whole season.

a bunch of women compete for one man? hmmmmmm... i couldn't imagine. the prize is just a man? is he kid? or bob perhaps? i don't get it. don't think i want to either. i watch survivor. are they similar? do the people have to eat rice for months at a time? do they not shower or shave? do they win a million dollars? do they fight at least? please, do tell.... or perhaps not. maybe if i start watching i'll become too involved in something i shouldn't become involved in. but seriously, the prize is what? marriage? to a man they don't know? is he good lookin? or rich at least? where do they come up with these ideas? tabitha, don't give in, don't do it girl. watch law and order instead. i love it when a plan comes together. i can send you some old episodes i tivoed, ok? don't give in, be strong...

they get hair and makeup appointments, but they are denied access to books, magazines, TV, and internet. They all have to live together to provide maximum chance for little catfights, until it's down to the last few women.

The prize is just a man. If they're lucky, he proposes at the end and they get a big honkin' Harry Winston ring. The first one didn't even propose, he flashed the ring at her and said he might give it to her someday, and invited her to move to his city so they could keep dating. Some prize.

Didn't you get exposed to the hoopla surrounding Trista and Ryan's wedding? They were the first couple that actually got married. On that one it was one woman, a bunch of guys.

Hey have you heard of 'wedding porn'? It's the literary genre started by Jane Austin, surviving today as Bridget Jones and much of the chick lit stuff, where the whole point is marriage and a big wedding. I think it's a funny phrase. Well the Bachelor is pure wedding porn.

Oh, and I watched it. It was 2 hours long. It's agonizing because like half of it is little teasers about what's coming up, and what happened last week, and what's going to happen in the upcoming weeks. There's like 20 minutes of content sretched to 2 hours. The host is very robotlike and keeps repeating the same phrases in every show. 'The most shocking rose ceremony yet' comes up a lot. I personally giggle every time a contestant says 'it's getting really hard'. Or 'it's getting so much harder'. Or 'I never knew how hard it would get'. Cause you see, they keep saying it, and it's a sexual innuendo, but they don't seem to notice.

Of course, ladies, this stuff is NOT good for your mental health, so please avoid watching it. :-)

Gee, I didn't notice the sexual innuendo either.

Maybe I should apply to be on the show!!!

<<<I thought that I was the only one that took the 'harder' comments in that context! There are so many innuendos that I can't help but be amused.

Haven't watched the new Bachelor yet. It seems that they are always the same. Besides, the dream dates that are setup for contestants don't ever happen in real-life so I find myself wishing for some fictional fairy tale. I even thought of applying to be on the show but being on camera 24/7 is a little too nervewracking for me. Besides, I really don't need my family watching me in one of those ever-so-cleverly-staged hot tub dates.
